Re: Putting a 1985 12a into a 1979 Rx-7
OK.. after taking the top of carb off and cleaning air bleeds and jets, it idles now. It will idle all day except not smooth. It jumps around a bit around 1K on the tach. It also runs rough with the choke fully engaged. Driving it on the road its great. Anything over 3K is smooth as silk. Here is a ...

Re: Putting a 1985 12a into a 1979 Rx-7
I think it's more of a carb issue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCqBNC0Vcz4 Does that look like the way the fuel should be entering the intake? I more than likely need a rebuild. Also, this may sound like a joke and I might be out of luck on this but.... when the motor is warmed up and turned off,...

Re: Putting a 1985 12a into a 1979 Rx-7
I have not changed the timing at all. That was something I was thinking off looking at. I also bought new coils. The ignitors seemed to be working. I removed each plug and tested to see if I was getting spark and I was. Here it is after running for a bit. It wasn't comletely warm yet and will not id...

Re: Putting a 1985 12a into a 1979 Rx-7
Well, the motor is in and all hooked up. Got her running, doesn't quite sound right though. Currently it's an open header. I have to get an exhaust system for it. Here is what it sounds like.

Re: Former and future SA owner
Hello and thanks! I'm not entirely sure about the headlight motors yet. I am just about finished painting the engine bay. I then have to put the new (used) engine in and get it started. Then I get to breath a little and start with all the other stuff. I may take you up on your offer though! I would ...

Re: Putting a 1985 12a into a 1979 Rx-7
After actually doing some research in the manuals (I should have done first), I found out that the extra bit on the then '85 throttle linkage was for cruise control. Theoretically though that '85 rx7 motor with the '85 carb should plug right in to the '79 body. I know there are some modifications fo...

They look identical for a few minor connections...

Re: Putting a 1985 12a into a 1979 Rx-7
Well, I finally got the '79 12A out of the car and brought home the '85 12A. It looks like there are a few hoses that are not going to get plugged into anything on the car. Also are the throttle cables etc going to work? The carb looks a little different where they connect to the carb on the '85 mot...
