Project WTF HAVE I DONE

OH WELL HERE GOES .....

Well after a lot of looks and not much interest selling it on I have now decided to get this thing done, I am not going into minute detail with it but its going to be clean outside and running with an MOT

needs a heap load of work to do it but I have already started with the buying

The ford V6 engine is seized but the chassis seems clean and rolls fine and it just seems like surface rust underneath but nothing structual

This weekend I am off to the midlands to collect a 2.8l V6 ford to replace the 2.3 thats fitted and I got a bargain with a 2.8 engine ( non injection) with 5 speed gearbox and a running 2.3 block with all its missing ancillaries. Going to drop in the 2.8 with the manual gearbox then weigh in the current 2.3 for scrap but use all the parts I gain from that to get the 2.3 block included in the sale from a hotrod guy to get that all running and sold on with the auto gearbox to get some cash back to put back in, just bought an engine hoist yesterday so I can crack into that on my days off over christmas :)

What I do need now is a list of parts as long as your arm, if anyone has any please message me
I need to do this lot to get back onto the road for an MOT

Windscreen
brake discs
brake pads
wiper motor and mechanism
corner cover on rear NS quarter light window
Clutch pedal mechanism and clutch cylinder (been removed for the auto box)

Other required items are
possibly 2 headlights ( they dont seem to be lifting on the switch yet but havent investigated)
Bonnet (to get rid of those awful vents)

I will be making a list on the wanted section

First things first though, engine out and replacement in :D

Headlights, as you might expect, are on a couple of raise/lower motors. Not usually prone to failure.

I would respectfully suggest that a Haynes manual will be invaluable, given the work you're planning. If only for the wiring diagrams.
You have to make do with the Series 2 manual and try and work out the S3 variations from the addendum pages. (I don't think there's a series 3 specific Haynes).

Electrical wiring isnt a problem and as it doesnt have a loom due to a ford V6 with carbs so thats a bonus, just headlights didnt p[op up when i tried the lights, could be the motors are shot or just seized

I got a pedal box but no clutch master, I have a bonnet that def needs a paint but no holes at least. probably got a wiper mech as well.

Bits are located in TN22...

Think you'll find this a really interested project and requires a lot of time.
If you're looking for a wiring loom I have one - only thing missing is the ignition switch.
I also have a pair of motors.

So now the work begins
Picked up a pile of stuff today, got a nice 2.8 V6 with 5 speed gearbox from an XR4 that was vandalised, its an injection version so I am swapping the inlet manifold and carbs from the seized engine with the 2.8 to make a nice basic carbureted engine with no electronics to worry about. the seller also chucked in a good working 2.3 block with all ancillaries missing so I can put the injection unit on that and sell it all on.
I have got a ford series 9 5 speed gearbox with everything included with a new clutch fitted but managed to find a missing gearstick and pick that up on the way through too so everything is complete
Next job is to do the swap with the top ends just to make it easyier to do before the engine swap, then old engine out and gut the bay, repaint the engine bay in white gloss spray before replacing it all
I have ordered a new head set for the engine so it will be washed down soon and then sprayed as well.
Got some axle stands and will be getting the front wheels off soon to service brakes and replace discs etc. will be treating surface rust underneath and then waxoyl the whole underside before the rot starts to get in

Once engine is in and runnng I can measure up for the prop shaft for shortening at an engineering workshop near me as the auto box is slightly shorter than the manual so that will need a little attention plus I can do an oil change on the rear axle too.

STILL DESPERATELY NEED A CLUTCH PEDAL ASSEMBLY ASAP PLEASE

Stripped engine down, just need to drain the oils and remove driveshaft and she is ready for removal tomorrow morning

I have a brand new head gasket set to refit the 2.8 injection and to swap it with twin carbs so i do not need any dodgy ford wiring or trying to mix the already butchered mazda loom and keep this nice and simple, everything has come apart surprisingly easy only seized bolts I have found is on the thermostat housing

Nice day sunday so with a hangover from our christmas party I serviced the MX-5 ready for another road trip in a few days and then realised it was only 1130am so I spent the day on the RX7 and pulled the engine out and split the gearbox off ready for parts and scrap
Found a small rust patch to weld up but its not a biggy and in an easy place on the chassis, measured up and the manual gear box should line up perfect on oem hole in the tunnel and the drive shaft has been professionally cut to length and looks like it wont need any other modifying, calipers and discs are surprisingly clean so discs refaced to remove rust and its just a service on those calipers and the pads are almost new so thats hopefully going to be an easy fix and fitting the side exhausts shouldnt be a problem by looking underneath it seems pretty roomy to get the cherry bomb side exits
Also looking at rerouting the remaining loom so its a tidy wireless bay, got a mate coming roun after christmas to make a shrink wrap tent over the front of the car so I can get the engine bay done with some fan heaters and some rattle cans so its nice and gleaming white under the bonnet

I also want to find a set of these rotary style wheels in this video, they would look cool with some spacers on mine

they might not clear your brakes, even if using spacers
