Got home too late to get out to the garage last night. Tonight is on the cards though!
I am pretty sure the dizzy on the 12aT is the standard NA type rather than the 12aT type.

Just to reclarify, when I said car, I meant engine.... The car is an Elford Turbo, engine went and the short block was replaced with a 12aT by Tim White for the previous owner.
Its defo 12at as its got the injector holes and the blacked out writing on the housings.

Both dizzys are the same being the non electronic type with the vacuum advance.
Just been out and sprayed up all the rusty looking fixings ready for strip on the weekend. Looking forward to a bit of garage time

Finally got a few pics. Here is the engine as I got it, pretty much complete.

Exhaust ports are pretty different, heres the turbo port

and the NA ports

Can you remove the EGR tube?

Heres the two 215 and 225mm clutch and pressure plates.

This seems to reckon that I can use my exedy heavy duty s3 225mm pressure plate in the 215mm s2 clutch and pressure plate arrangement, might be a waste though as the unit will wear with a step in it where it is not clamped by the pressure plate

Turbo front cover with oil drain, plan to fit this to the NA block for draining dutys


Engine is up on the stand now and had a first clean off, looks pretty good.
I 'think' it has been rebuilt (at some point) as the sump is stuck on with sealant rather than with a gasket and there seems to be evidence of sealant between the plates that you would not get from the factory I think (o-rings only). Will have to wait for compression tests once running to know the condition for sure.

Exhaust ports won't hurt the power at this level and I'd leave the tube in as they are a faff to get out.

Engine basically built apart from few hose clips and the oil lines. Need to get a FD oil filter pedestal as suggested for the turbo oil feed. Anyone got one lying about?

She runs OK but still some tuning to do to get the carb and timing set up right. The engine does not have the elford ignition control unit in place which makes me nervous about the on boost ignition timing. Plan is to borrow an advance timing light and set up this way. The info on this site talks about the elford unit retarding timing however all mine has is a solinoid that switches at 0.1bar that blocks off the vacuum advance. Is the circuit actually this basic?
