1983 GSL eith a 20B PP Build

Post by kiwinelson9879 »

well the car has arrived... I have rebuilt the carb and it started straight up and drove round the block... after running for a while the rotors have 150psi on both rotors and spins up both tires cause it has a S3 LSD in it as well ... WIN!

Still that wont save it from getting pulled. I have the original Big Block Rotor to go in there so after it gets complied it will be coming to pieces.

I just put in an order with Racing Beat for all the suspension goodies (cheaper to ship from LA than it is to buy it all retail in NZ)
Will need some Moog steering equipment shortly
And some Energy suspension bushes.

So here is a link to the photobucket album of the car as it arrived and is currently awaiting compliance testing.

So I'm making the 20B out of good used parts to keep costs down on new stuff... please don't have a go at me I have done this before with great success for my personal use, I'm not racing any 24 hour enduro's here. its all crack tested and clearanced... to be honest they are as good as new.

The E-Shaft is being milled new of course as is the bearing being milled into the plates so its not a backyard job by any means, the motor will owe me about $16K all finished, but the quotes I got to buy one were over $30K so Im happy with my numbers.

Will keep taking pics and upload as progress occurs, likely to be a bit sporadic to start with as the set up and making sure everything is ready takes a lot of time, the actual build should be pretty swift once under way.

cheers

No ones gonna give you a hard time about using used parts for a build, bro. That's all we can get in the UK. The 12As are being kept alive, but the lack if new housings is making it hard.

Just so you know, that car has a S2 24 spline LSD and axles, not S3 26 spline. It's not as strong as the later S3 stuff.
Back in the UK for the summer, maybe longer......

Ah cheers good to know... I plan on pulling it anyways for a hilux rear end... I have a friend with a winters quick change rear but not sure its worth the hassle... although I hear with a winters the axles are shaped like a light bulb similar to old Landruiser front axle so you can dial in negative camber really easy without shagging out bearings... we shall see where that goes... that's a stage 2 job anyway, stage 1 is getting motor built installed and the car driving

Got a package from Racing Beat today, New Tokiko 5 way adjustable shocks, new springs and new swaybars.

Also got a package from SuperPro, a full set of underbody Bushes.

Just waiting on the new steering components now from Moog and T3 and I think the underbody is all purchased... just need a day to get it all swapped over.

Series 5 front Hubs onto my legs with S6 RS rotors and calipers on a modified mount.
Series 5 front brakes on the hilux rear end.

After this its on to the power department... Will upload some pics to the photo library this weekend.

Well its been ages since an update... had to move workshop... amazing how much crap can be accumulated over time. anyway all moved and back into it now... have uploaded a few pics to the link above, got the dummy block fitted, got the rotors licghtened and balanced, managed to find a set of series 4 NA rotors which are thicker and Im thinking this will allow for a shot of NOS at some point.

Rotating assembly all balanced and motor is ready for assembly, Im focused more now on making all the ancilliary bits on the dummy block, headers, mounts, inlet anifold, tucking all the wiring down the chassis rails... little things but a few of them... and fiddly work. The motor will be the last thing to come together and swap out the dummy for it.

So Im dedicated to this now (And work/life) but I need it done and the hoist needs to go back to its owner... so Im hoping to have a lot more updates in the coming month.

NEED this done by the end of August... so lots should be happening
