Headlights won't go down!

Post by ElectricAwsum »

1984 RX7 GSL

I'm sure there are many threads with this topic but I have two other electrical issues and am curious if they are connected.

I checked all the fuses under the dash and they are all fine.
My radio won't turn on and the hazard flashers will not either.
Are either of these connected to the headlights not going down?

Recently bought the car and none of these worked when I bought it.

Thank you!

Have you tried the switch in the centre console next to the clock and the rear demister.... it's a switch to raise the headlights without actually having them illuminated for when you are washing the car.... sometimes that switch will play up and affects the other headlight switch on the combination switch... worth having a play around with that switch. The other cause may be the fusible links on the strut tower in the engine bay.... one of those provides the power to the headlight motors.... if the link has burnt out, the motors won't work to lift or drop the lights.

I'm currently having the same problem. I replaced the electric window switches today and now the headlights will go up with the stalk only - but won't go down. The combination switch doesn't make them do anything - although, I can hear a solenoid clicking when I press the combination switch. I'm kind of thinking the problem is in there so will have another look tomorrow in the daylight.

On the same topic, the fuse block mounted to the strut tower has two original cord type fuses in it and a home made 20A connection in the brown closest to the firewall. That fuse is ok so might have to switch them around tomorrow also to see if one of those is broken.

Any other info on this would be appreciated.

Cheers.

There is a hazard fuse in the driver's footwell box, 10A IIRC. It also covers the stereo and some other stuff. Are the hazards working now? Mine blew the fuse when the wire for the doorlock light got trapped in the doorlatch rod, chafed through and caught fire!
