New Guy from Louisiana

Post by imelmo »

Hello from SouthEast Louisiana. I don't currently own an RX-7. Actually I have a '93 300ZX TT that will be completed (mechanically anyway) around January or February. It previously ran 11.0's-11.2's @ 126-128mph. Everything is being upgraded in it now and hoping to bypass 10's all-together when it is done. :D Have everything here but the turbos and Haltech.

Anyway, I am thinking about picking up a 1st gen RX-7 as a "beater" side project. I had a non-turbo '87 back in the day and loved it, but I know the 1st gen ones are significantly lighter and I will be looking for speed. So I'm on here to learn some more about these and see what my options are.

First thing I would like to find out is how much power a stock motor can handle. -haha-

Hi,

I really like the 300zx twin turbo but I've been looking into the engine bay of one some years ago and came to the decision that I will never buy one... Mechanics from Japan must have special, smaller arms with additional joints! -haha-

My RX7 handles about 270bhp on a stock engine since about 33 years now and seems to be happy with that. I think the engine itself could handle much more but I've read the oil pump and the oil pressure regulator should be upgraded then. One of the most important things is to avoid detonations. They will destroy your apex seals.
