Hi there I need help. My 1983 rx7fb has been running nicely but then suddenly started to run erratically and needs choke even when warm. Also the exhaust has been smoky for some time but I put that down to excessive two stroke oil in the fuel.
Spark seems good, I haven't touched the carb or run the fuel low
I should add that the car hasn't been driven for a year just run to temperature every month or so
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Mark

Re: Rx7fb rough idle
Hi mark,
My first port would be New fuel and New plugs, a year of excess oil will kill the plugs, a good clean with a wire brush could be all they need to get running a bit better. Plus old fuel goes off.
That normally works for me when she's been laying for a while.

Re: Rx7fb rough idle
Many thanks for the info gents
Will try those and report back
The amount of blue smoke on both idle and higher revs bothers me somewhat, she has done 98k miles and am unsure if the engine has been overhauled in the past
Regards

Re: Rx7fb rough idle
Fuel filter over the back axle.
Pig of a job on your back with raw fuel pooling in your armpit...
The car then needs a good drive to get everything really up to temperature and burn off any deposits.
Time to worry is when it's still smoking after a 20/30 mile run.

This

get it out on the road for an Italian tune up. The rotary doesn't like sitting around they need regular red-lining...
Mine left smoke screens James bond would be proud of but cleared after a good blast or two...
