Finally got time to introduce myself. My Names Shaun, I have been a long time fan of the Mazda RX7 from the age of 17 when back in 1984 when i first set eyes on one while queuing to get in my local nightclub, I thought then one day i would love to own one.
i have worked in the motor trade for many years as an auto electrician, now working as a service engineer all over the uk and offshore.
Over the last 25 years i have carried out many restorations and always on the look out for something different.
one of the most unusual restorations i have done is a 1958 Daimler ferret (which i still own, just cant part with it, so much time went into that project)
I finished my last project this winter (a speed boat) so at a loose end my search for my next project started.
It had to be an RX7 fb
Well in at the deep end i purchased the blue Elford turbo project on Ebay this month. had it delivered the next day.
as luck would have i have had to work 2 week ends since taking delivery, but this is what i have done so far.
changed oil, cleaned out carburettor and started engine. (sounds sweet apart from smell of stale fuel being burnt)
removed rear axle and suspension components to clean and paint.
removed and overhauled all brake callipers.
removed and cleaned fuel tank and exhaust.
have now pulled car out of garage to clean underside and treat with waxoyl.
will try to add some pictures soon.
hope to have car at body shop this summer for complete respray. (keeping the same colour, just want to restore car to its former glory)
any advise on restoration will be gratefully received.
i will be posting on WANTED is two good doors as the present doors are completely shot (not sure how rare these are)
regards Shaun oshea
