Yeah actually that is a problem. Im slowly remembering! Will be doing that when Im ready to be driving the car

Okay this hasn't been updated since I originally bought the car. Progress has been slow as its my first car in England, so I've had to buy tools and stuff. Kept going to do a job on the car then realised I needed to buy some other item to finish it haha.

Firstly I just cleaned the engine bay up a bit by removing all the muck off the paint. It was caked on over all the paint inside the bay. Gave the radiator top cover a quick spray. Replaced all the coolant hose clamps also. Small things make a good difference! Should really wipe that radiator shroud down though



Clean enough - Check the top of the passenger strut!



Had to replace my intake manifold gasket as it was dripping coolant onto the exhaust. It was covered in loads horrible crap that I scraped off and cleaned up. Don't have a clue what it was? I put in some core plugs too.

Also had to replace these o rings. Easy as to do. Hardest thing was getting the hoses off . Ran clean water through it and shook it about to try clean out the inside too.



Done a bunch of other smaller bits and pieces and finally booked and MOT and passed first time! Although I had a few advisories.


Looks like I'm going to need a new exhaust. Sort my handbrake out. Needa figure out if I should buy new discs or just them them skimmed also. For the ball joint, should I just replace that? Or would it be worth buying new track rods?

Congrats on the mot Jesse, those few advisories are nothing to worry about and no more than we'd expect from a car that's over 28 years old.
Good work on the inlet manifold and the beehive O rings as well.... it's little jobs like that that make all the difference.

Ah sweet as then! I think next up I'd like to sort out the few rust patches on the body. Then buy some POR15 and get underneath the car! Might buy some new bushings and do them when I get underneath too. Braided brake/clutch lines would be nice also. Any suggestions on other things I might want to replace/upgrade when I eventually get under?

forget braided lines... they look pretty but are a waste of money on a road car.... spend your money on stuff that will make a real difference..... poly bushes, springs and shocks.... replacing these on a 28yr old car will transform the handling..... stock brakes are more than up to the job unless your going to massively increase the hp anytime.
I'd concentrate on the suspension...... replacing the worn out componets will improve the handling and safety of the car and you driving enjoyment.

Haha yeah I suppose they can wait. I spoke to Steve briefly the other day about suspension and he mentioned about his Gaz stuff. Ill be looking into it. Ive also seen this from america https://technotoytuning.com/mazda/fb ££££ though! Specially after tax and import duties im assuming.
I have about £1500 in the bank at the moment. So ill keep saving until im ready to buy. Would help if I had a fulltime job!

Here's the word for anyone listening from your boring old snorefart Grandad Codge.

When you're doing your underbonnet checks, look over to the back of the carb from the left hand side (nearside for us) wing/ fender.
Coolant leaking from the 'O' rings will start to show escaped coolant 'ponding' in the casting dimples at the very start of 'O' ring failure.

Avoids all this mess and its a straightforward job (if the thermal reactor is gone.....that blasted nut that only Keith's special spanner will turn).

Glad to see you got around to using those gasket and o rings. WOW no doubting you had an issue there. Starting to look nice and tidy under the bonnet now.
