I definitely wouldn't say this is a forum for purists at all Personally, I'm not even fussed by the engine; V6 lumps make about the best noise of any piston engine! And I for one certainly applaud people indulging their different tastes and personalities via their cars. To get a car that attracts attention is one of the reasons many people modify them in the first place... although not all are honest enough to admit it! The only caveat I'd add is that you'd hope it attracts attention for the right reasons rather than derisory ones when it's done. I certainly wouldn't judge this car purely on aesthetics because that's such a subjective and personal thing it's beyond relevance to anything other than banter in the pub. There's a big difference between someone putting a lot of time and money into modding a car and someone doing the same thing, only properly.

Regardless, from the photos this looks like it is at least a physically sound car to use as a base, and as I said, I'll watch with interest to see what develops. Wish you the best of luck with it

We didn't like the car Keith, that's no secret. But that doesn't mean you're not welcome on here.

There'll be no shortage of free, hopefully helpful and enthusiastic advice on here for you, I'm sure of that.
We just love our rotaries, that's all, but hey many of us have a piston car as a daily drive.

Hi I know a few dont like the car but thats life, cant please everyone and theres no way I feel unwelcome, if you all didnt like it I would wind photos of all the work into my worklog everyday

Just waiting for a transport company to collect it and deliver it to me at the beginning of next week hopefully so I can start getting stuck in

thanks for the heads up about the scorpio engine but classic V6 always sounds the best plus looking at it the inlets maybe to high for the RX as capri's sit deep anyway, Im not that fussed about speed if it sounds right but then it still has to get away at the lights so maybe a 5 speed manual will be enough to do that.
Ive been looking at ideas for this and maybe have something in the bag for it , will wait and see when it arrives and what I need to do to it

When its here ill start a worklog going, I maybe in the look out for a new bonnet as those vents are pretty naff anyway so that maybe the first purchase

Bonnets should be plentiful. Don't let any scrappies tell you they're rare.
There's a breaker called Pete Markin in Nottingham area a year or two back. He broke a red car but he was mega expensive. Might not have sold bonnet?

Bonnet is same as the glass hatch at the back. 10 a penny.

Now a glass roof panel? Then you're talking ££'s to buy. Looks like you might have one?

Alright fella.

Certainly is a unique motor you got there that's for sure.

If you'll let me give you some free and totally take it or leave it advice - you got a full body kit but stock rims. The standard car struggles to fit wider wheels but looks like the wider body on yours will give you quite a few options - I say go wider and def bigger than the current 14s; probably 16s to get the balance right. Pcd is 114.3 so common to a lot of jap cars - easiest pickings being Nissan, but a lot of multi stud stuff about as well.

The wing I'm not a fan of as the lines dobt suit the original car or the new shape - I think it would be cleaner with out it.

Engine wise - I'm not really a fan of the ford v6 even in its original home, they are a heavy lump too so if it's not going to be a rotary then next option would be the rover v8. Cheap and plentiful and sound ace as well as being very light. An easy 150-190bhp as well. Any ohv v8 should fit though - and all been done before. Obviously easiest option is just to leave what's in it there but if you do want to swap - don't discount the rotary. Same benefits and power as the rover v8.

Even just Painted/polished etc you'll be well on the way to a decent motor!

well glad to see you made it on here mate. seen your post on the mx3 site being a member on there too and now that i've got my mx3 MOT'd and back on the road after some welding thanks to the MOT man and his hammer having a laugh etc, i've got the classic car vide back again plus it's good to see another rx7 member join up, its a very good site for these types of cars.

there was a resprayed red fb near me for £1500 that had a pinto engine in it. it was MOT'd and taxed and all painted in the engine bay and the body.
looked the business and the engine, although a piston looked good, so you should be able to do the same. once tidied and looking good, it won't be as bad looking, though i'd agree the rear spoiler would be better off than on.

it just feels strange having piston engines in rotary engine mazda's as they are designed for the engine, but it's no bad thing to be different. i stayed away from buying the red fb near me as i always like originality and so reckoned if i was to get an fb, i'd prefer it with it's 12a or 13b.
but i enjoy reading project threads and seeing the pics and final product so looking forward to seeing how you get on with the car.

Well its arrived and it maybe broken up for parts, the previous owner has ruined it and put old photos online before he attempted his halfords rtestoration and covered the glass etc in red spray paint, the windscreen is smashed and it arrived with NO v5 plus someone has had a go at removing a quaterlight and it leaks
also the tax disc in the window is 1996 and after some research on DVLA it hasnt had an owner since 1998
plus side, it rolls well, the brakes work, it has 77k from new as the clocks on the passenger seat say and the suspension all seems to be fine, wheels and tyres are all good and the interior just needs cleaning with new headlinings
One good thing, that crap spoiler was mounted with wood that has gone soft and i removed it with a gentle tug and now looks very nice at the rear
The engine seems clean inside with oil and no rust from sitting so it will be attempted to start this weekend
I may just get it running and sell on as a running project or break it for parts and get my money back and spend it on one of these that I have been looking for all summer and only just found they have been relisted after I spent some of my money on this car

Glass moonroofs are usually good sellers, rather rare things. Thought that link was the lost 37th 250 GTO for a second then .


Ser5iously though, haven't they totally mis-represented the car then? Get onto eBay and/or Paypal and get your money back, ****s like that deserve to be made to suffer
