Re: Hello!
It's the one where some old geezer (much as myself) says he's too old to drive the car now, keeps advertising it but then doesn't answer any enquiries about it. Strangeness itself....... Some old jossers, I don't know!
People keep persuing it because the car looks very tidy.
Your other 3 cars seem to be all gone now Mark. All in my 'Probably Scrap' File because DVLA haven't taxed them for a decade or more. Interestingly GGO seems to be belting about on some other make of car. Of course when you got rid there weren't many valuable transfer-worthy plates?
C984 DKP was a new spot, thanks. The cluster of Tender Blue brothers was C966 through to C970, five Cars with same day registration....a Mazda bulk Reg we all thought.
Of the five, three seem long gone, one is on this forum and the fifth, C970 was for sale (Spares or Repair), as recently as last July. I do have a mob number for that, but did you want a project or a runner?
You could ask DVLA if C984 was available for transfer to another machine if you were attached.
You could do me a couple of favours......Get me the Reg No.& Colour of the LHD S1 near you and sit yourself in a darkened, silent room for at least 5 hours until you recall the Reg of your mushy pea S1.......
Regards Dave

Re: Hello!
Thanks Dave. I have managed to contact the seller of the white car and am tempted to make an offer. It's in Wales though, so I may have to ask a pal to view it for me. I know it's a runner and has very little rust, but very little else. I sent a list of questions by email and hope to know more tonight, so I can consider a price.
That rear spoiler needs to go though. I also worry about cars falling out of use. I've looked at a few FB in the past and it was usually rotor tip issues that were behind it.

Re: Hello!
Oh! Gosh. Sorry, I think I've got the wrong whitey. I didn't look at the Reg closely.
The one I'm on about with the old geezer is in Lincs.
I think I've got a couple of notes on VHW. More anon.

Re: Hello!
This is the post from the spotters thread from when it was up for sale last year.....
I'm sure if this car had been inside the show area rather than on the car park, it would have gone home with a trophy. Sounds from the above advert that it needs a bit of tlc now though.
I saw this car park at Rotorstock back in 2010, which was where I took the previous photo and it was the best car there in terms of condition... it just blew away the 1st gen that actually won 1st gen of the show, which was in reality a tired old thing..... I can only think the owner was a mate of the Judgesian65 wrote:for sale on ebay.....this car is a proper bargain if it sells for £1500..... I saw this car at Rotorstock 2010 and it was lovely..... it was up for sale around that time but apparently didn't sell. It now boasts the JDM 12a turbo engine out of Tools JDM 12at and as far as I know, that makes it the only 1st gen in the UK with a factory 12at engine.
sellers description:
Sadly its time to put my Mazda RX-7 up for sale, i'v owned the car for the last three years or so and am only selling it due to lack of use as its only done around 3000 miles in that time. The car has been extremely well cared for and comes with a large selection of receipts and service history. What sets this car apart from most other FB RX-7's is that it is fitted with a rare 12A turbo engine which was only fitted to Japanese cars it produces approximately 165HP and unlike the UK cars is fitted with fuel injection which is far more reliable and fuel efficient. All the emmisions equipment and emmisions ECU are removed although i still have them and could come with the car if needed. The rotor housings and tip seals are in mint condition as i removed the turbo and manifold to check when buying the new engine and since then its only done roughly 600 miles so will have loads of life left before a rebuild would be needed. To improve cooling i have also fitted a later RX7 oil cooler which is plumbed in with quality JIC fittings.
The gearbox is a special turbo box which is pretty much the same as a series four FC RX7 box so much stronger and easily capable of handling the power.
The suspension has all been replaced a few years ago and is just stock replacement parts but all in perfect working order, some of the bushes would benefit from being changed but at the moment are still perfectly usable.
Bodywork has been maintained to a very high standard but there are a few sections which need attention, the rear arches are starting to bubble in places and also a small section of rust on the sunroof, the underneath is all in very good order it is by no means concours condition but has never had any issues going through MOTS. Receipts for over a 1000 pounds worth of minor paintwork repairs to keep it looking its best.
The interior is very well cared for and certainly doesn't show the cars 114,000 miles as the seat bolsters are barely worn and carpets and trim all look nearly new. The car is fitted with a Sony CD player with ipod socket. Rear parcel shelf blind is still in place and working.
Wheels have been refurbished and good tyres all round although one is a bit older than the others so could be replaced or swapped with the spare which is brand new.
Comes with a car bra nose warmer to keep the engine bay warm in winter and has removable sections to allow the headlights to open.
Bad Bits
Bubbling to rear arches.
Little bit of rust on sun roof.
I had to make the turbo down pipe myself and never got round to making or buying some gaskets so it blows a bit.
Low water level light stays on the dash board which did work so either a sticky switch or a break in the wire, either way a simple fix.
New fuel injection pump needs some kind of sound deadening as you can hear it inside the car.
Overall a great usable classic which is cheap to insure and fun to drive. I have described the car honestly and i know any buyer would be happy with its condition.

Re: Hello!
That motor sat for a long time and the fuel system was goosed.
I took the turbo and manifold off for him to show him the apex seals were all present, but how he can claim it is mint is beyond me.
Magic?

Re: Hello!
I'm tempted to make an offer on it, as a long term project? I'm certainly in no rush but I would like to get myself an FB whilst there are still some cheap ones to be had. Would a rebuild with new tips be expensive?
The seller of the blue car is no longer responding to my emails, so not sure if he's still selling or not?

Re: Hello!
Depends on what you find when/if you open it. Seals are all available from Mazda.Mark-e21 wrote:Would a rebuild with new tips be expensive?
Housings are the big question. You cannot get new 12A housings for love nor money. I had a set I sold 2 years ago and they went to Oz to keep a historic racecar going.
You've got the extra hassle of 12AT housings which have an oil injection hole in the top of them on the manifold side. Very hard to find in EU (although I know a guy who has 1 brand new one for sale in EU).
I advise using carbon apex seals on all early motors cos you can get seals easily but housings get chewed up by the metal Mazda seals and cost a fortune if you can find them.
You can't run carbon seals on a turbo motor as they won't handle any detonation.
I would expect those housings to be near the end of their life, but I could be wrong. You would end up having to use them, whatever their condition.

Re: Hello!
I wouldn't worry too much about the engine Mark, second hand 12a engines can still be bought for peanuts and if the worst came to the worst, you could easily convert the car back to N/A 12a or if you're after the performance, drop in a 13b turbo from a 2nd gen turbo 2.
Much more important is the condition of the bodywork, these things rust from the inside out and the ground up. Check out the bodywork guide on the forum..... as a car guy yourself you know the score, mechanical bits are easy enough to bolt on and off..... bodywork takes skill, money or both.....
Buy on the condition of the shell and panel work and you won't go far wrong.
That 12a turbo engine came out of a JDM 12AT that Tool broke for spares a few years back.... I bought some parts off the car and could have taken the engine as well but didn't for the reasons Tool gives above.... it had been stood for years and years, it's condition ( despite what the seller thinks) is unverified and sourcing replacement parts for it would be an expensive nightmare so I passed.
