right so dont tie yourself to anything specific to start with and just buy the best you can find within your budget so you can jsut get yourself in the drivers seat of 1 :D

sound advice Ian thank you very much!

i went over and met a chap called Jase (olskool) from EXILE today, was fortunate enough to be able to have a smook about a 12a that he had stripped in his garage and a healthy gearbox too ... which was a nice real life intro to em

yeah, 1st gens and the 12a are very simple to work on..... mechanically a piece of cake...... plus second hand 12a's can be had for 100 quid...... bodywork and the structural areas of the monocoque are the critical things to check out.
The 12a in the 1st gen isn't super powerful but it's the whole package that makes the car so much fun to drive..... and as said, it's easy to up the power a bit, even without porting or turbos...

Welcome....again! I shouldn't worry too much about the lack of welding experience - I can't weld but managed to put a 13BT in my S2 so it's not the be all and end all. You've had the best advice that can be given already so I won't bother adding anything.

Have fun looking-although the 8 might become a little unused once you've got an FB. 8-)

They aren't 'that' rare. Most people on here are looking to buy rather than sell, so the for sale section is pretty slim for cars.

Keep an eye on the spotted thread, where people post up the latest cars for sale on ebay/gumtree/wherever. Theres normally a couple of cars each week. In fact there;s one that look promising and recently had a price drop about halfway down the page... viewtopic.php?f=20&t=12&start=790#wrap

Seeing as I'm rendering at work and essentially just killing time I even dug you out the for sale advert... http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/s ... hp?t=68621

Cars are out there, you've just gotta do a bit of hunting rather than waiting for hem to come to you :)
