Re: KIMI 3 - 1984 Series 3
Yeehaa - MOT pass today
.....a couple of minor advisories - corrosion on brake ferrules on front flexible brake pipes and a slight drag on nearside rear brake disc. I had already arranged for the garage to do a full brake fluid change as I don't know when it was last done. I'd have done it myself, but as the car was going into the garage anyway I decided to take the easy route!
So I have asked them to take a look at sorting the disc drag whilst it's on the lift to do the fluid change. I did dismantle, check and regrease the rear caliper pins not long ago, so doubt if it's that. Possibly due to low mileage in the past year (about 900 miles I think), causing something to stick?

Pretty damn good result there aye bro. Braided hoses should fix one issue
. Have you rebuilt the calipers at all? Or maybe the handbrake mech needs adjusting? I believe each rear caliper has it's own adjustment nuts to balance them out

Re: KIMI 3 - 1984 Series 3
Turns out it was the front offside disc that was dragging, not the rear, so that rules out handbrake issues at least.
The garage have checked everything and can't see an obvious cause; sliders OK, pads OK, piston freely moving. They suggested I drive for a a while and check the disc temps (I have an IR gun). I did that yesterday. After about 20 miles, with some light and deliberate hard braking, rears measured 20 degrees C evenly both sides. Fronts were 20 nearside and 30 offside, so looks like a very minor drag happening. I will do some more miles and check again.
Is there a good source for new front brake flexi pipes, braided would be good, but will take whatever is easy to obtain?

Re: KIMI 3 - 1984 Series 3
I bought a set for the FC from HEL, not far from me. Fitted perfectly & prompt service, had a choice of colours

Brilliant, thanks Pete. A lot of RX-8 OC guys have used HEL brake lines on their cars. I didn't know they offered them for FB's

Malcolm, did you take it to Essex Rotary or just a local garage. Aston never came back to me after I left 5 or 6 messages.Casey wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 11:15 am Turns out it was the front offside disc that was dragging, not the rear, so that rules out handbrake issues at least.

Re: KIMI 3 - 1984 Series 3
Local garage this time. Aston is super busy and simply doesn't return calls to throttle his workload. I've said to him it doesn't create a good business impression but he doesn't have another way to handle it.Threesevens wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 6:20 pm Malcolm, did you take it to Essex Rotary or just a local garage. Re: KIMI 3 - 1984 Series 3
I have HEL braided brake lines on my car, although I think goodrich are a little cheaper.
HEL did them very quickly though, I was impressed and would buy again, and I think will be buying at least a rear set for the track car I'm doing.
