What time you in Brighton? Popping into the shed on the way back by any chance? :)

One of the things I've enjoyed least in my entire life was idly wondering "how hard can it be to polish my alternator" and then going and doing it. Horrible, hateful job, never again. Never. And I've got a boredom threshold that'd shame a trappist monk. The main irritation is that it's pretty much impossible to keep it shiny once done, due to the risk of filling the armature and bearings with Autosol. Which is essentially a grinding paste. I'd suggest you don't do it!

As to funky hoses and that, I think sometimes adding blingy bits can only draw attention to the less delightful bits of an engine bay, unless you really go to town and jazz up everything. With that said, it couldn't hurt  Usually important not to have too many colours; I think given you already have blue plug wires you probably want to stick with that. But then what do I know?

Best of luck on the run, wish I could make it. Going to have to make do with Goodwood instead :(

Yep. Centre piece if the engine bay is the bbog and then the plug wires so that basically dominates your colour choice I reckon.

Blue it is I reckon

X3 on the fan ;)

Or just get rid of the rats nest??

Hmmm! No love for the red then?? It was only an experiment anyway. I will keep the blue, I just can't use it from the top of the air cleaner as the two blue shades clash to a purple which looks rather odd. (Uncle Timmy. I am not in any way dissing purple either). ;)

I've not considered ditching the viscous fan ... it's not malfunctioning and the power gains are minimal at best. Will look at some alternatives though. I like the twin MR2 setup and apparently a volvo 940 / 960 bolts straight on (well three out of four bolts anyway).

Ramon ... can't say what will be ETA in Brighton and my wife wants to see some castle type attraction as well. Will drop you a line when I'm there.

Also, if I do the rats nest delete, I lose the vacuum source for ignition advance, right? What other functions does the rats nest supply vacuum for?

It's all emissions related and not really needed.

Strip everything back - take vac source direct from carb base plate - blank off the 2 or 3 that are left unused. That's how the RX2 engine is (S3 motor) - nice and simple. :)

London to Brighton fail! Got less than 10 miles in and down to one rotor. :o I've gotta tell ya, one rotor motoring is no fun at all. Continued on after consulting with Ramon but called it a day after the rest stop. Compression test coming up I guess. :(

Sounds shit pal. Just as the weather comes right.

You better book it in to get checked.
