I did enjoy using the force to paint :lol: Gotta say the mask did a good job of protecting me from the paint, was well worth using it. Panda, I'm not very good with painters lingo yet, by HVLP guns do you mean like the top feed spray guns? As far as I know top fed guns are the norm for professionals and enthusiasts, but the syphon fed guns are still used quite a bit by amateurs. This syphon fed gun came with a cheap set of accessories with my compressor and having never painted before with a gun I thought I might as well try with it before I throw any more money at tools. I'm fairly happy with the results really, but if I were to do much more painting I might invest in a different gun.

Good luck with your megasquirt install :) . One thing I would recommend is that if you follow a guide then follow it to the letter, as soon as you start deviating from the guide you really need to do the background reading to properly understand the consequences.

Yeah sorry, HVLP means high volume low pressure - the gravity feed type like you thought. If you plan to do any more painting it's worth the investment in my opinion at least. Much less overspray/waste and easier to clean as well. Either way though you got nice results, so you can't complain about that haha.

Yeah thanks for the tip, I'm following the AaronCake writeup fairly closely, however I did go with a MS3/MS3X setup so there basically no mods needed to make it run a Rotary (no 2nd Vr circuit, or anything special to run a PWM idle air valve etc) I'm also using Tunerstuido (I assume you are too??) and his writeup is based on the older Megatune so it's been a bit of a chore to make sure I have all the settings right. So far all my bench tests have gone well, I'll be wiring it into the car in the next few weeks so we'll see how that goes lol.

Anyway, sorry for cluttering up your thread :) Very nice pics on those B roads, got any more?

Ah yeah, I had heard the top fed guns were generally better, I think I will buy one before I do more painting.

This isn't thread clutter, we're talking vaguely about cars, not pigeons or landscape gardening yet! Yeah I'm using tuner studio, much nicer to use than megatune and the VE analyse live is a god send. I'm on ms2 extra so I'm no use for settings either!

I followed Arron's guide pretty much to the letter for my megasquirt build on the rotary in my mx5/miata, and on the whole it worked out well. I still had a fun day trying to start it for the first time, but it was mostly down to my wiring mistakes. The only other issue I had was that Arron's base map setting for cranking pulse widths were about double what I needed to start and it was just flooding, the rest of the base map was pretty spot.

In the install for this car I moved away from Arron's guide quite a long way, going for a coil on plug set-up and sequential injection. The biggest mistake I made was going for FD coils and not realising what a difference that made to the ignition wiring (as they need an ignition amplifier or high current ignition drivers) and I ended up burning out the coils in the process of figuring out what went wrong. So yeah if you're following Arron's guide for FC coils make sure you use FC coils! haha.

Yeah I've seen a few other people have issues with the FD coils as well. FC coils are said to be the best rotary coil anyway (slightly better than FD, and hugely better than the Rx8 coils.), so no need to use anything else in my case.

I've got a few things to figure out in the settings still as the latest firmware release has a number of Rotary specific updates, I need to make sure I'm setting them correctly as they are vastly different than what Aaron has in his writeup. Should be entertaining that's for sure lol.

If you are at all serious about more paintwork I'd definitely recommend a good HVLP gun, I've had very good luck with my Ingersoll-Rand which I got back in 2004. Hasn't let me down yet.

I'm bored and being a lovely wet murky night I thought it was a perfect time to go play with cameras. :roll: I think I've been watching too much film noir. Think it was probably too foggy really but still nice atmosphere and nice to go for a drive just for the fun of it. Not being doing enough of that recently.

Cheers Ian. Unfortunately not :( Which makes it even harder to keep the resolve to sell her when I go out and have an enjoyable drive like tonight. Still I'm sure the decision to sell is right for me, so I'll just play the waiting game and continue to knock the price down bit by bit till I get some interest.

i'd reckon you'd miss rexanne too much if you sold her.

i really like the pics, the second from the last looks great with the street light, very spooky. :)
