The S3 stuff is superior to the S2, consider the vented rear brake set up too.
If you can get your hands on a S3 LSD convert the car to S3 front and rear suspension/axles and then you can even find wheels!

I like the rotor rims and and given that the S3 is that much wider I'll need to compensate the fenders or it'll look funny.
I've wanted to do a complete swap of S3 stuff since I bought the silver one but since then have I reduced my plans for power and thus it would seem likely that the S2 axle would survive.
The cheapest S3 drive-line I know of is probably going to set me back £700 and that is really too nice a body (rust wise) to do such a thing to.... it would be unsellable if I plundered it.. but then again I would have a separte engine to do my porting and megasquirt conversion on...
As for wheels, for about £180 you could pick up a set of wheel bolts with excentric head that allows you to mount 4x108 rims.

The B2600 diff is yet to be meassured up but it's most likely a 8" crown gear (same as T2), which makes the B2600 member of the mazda large differential gang.

I might have located a workshop that could be willing to produce some side gears for converting a regular S3 diff into a 24 spline, no prices yet but I'll keep updating the issue, or you could tell me to drop it and I'll stop spamming the thread..

KIA sportage cwp is about 4.7 ratio. Some come with LSD. They bolt straight into s3. You can find at wreckers for about £100

Shouldn't it be possible to just remove the diff from the crown gear and mate it to the crown gear of the S3 axle and keep the S3 ratio?

Possibly. Never done it that way. My car was running the KIA diff and was also on 15" tyres. It was used for racing and 1st gear was quite usefull rather than useless. Try a Honda S2000 they also fit ( apparently) so your ratio choice may be a bit more varied

Little to no progress lately.
Im stuck trying to learn enough CAD to understand the complexity of designing gears and splines and taking that drawing all the way to the mill/lathe.
If anyone with microfiche copies can dig out the part number for the 24 spline side gears and contact your best mazda parts dealser (quite a few here are not interested in trying do dig up parts even when given the part number) to see if mazda still has them in stock (they were possible to buy separately in sweden in the good old days).
I have located another workshop that might be interested in making gears if mazda don't sell them.
I've not researched the "rebuildability" of the sportage LSD.
24spline LSDS (usually called somthing related to small-bearing) popp up in the well known US club forum from semi-regularly so getting a real 24 spline from the US is probably easier and cheaper than trying to source one from down-under.

You can still buy the clutch packs from Mazda so I suspect you could probably get the 24 spline gears too.
There's a link to foxed where you can look up the part numbers for everything from R100 to FD.

Great thread gents - lots of useful information on here.
I'm going to be trying a number of combinations in my Montrose diff housing, (which seems to be the same as the S3) I'll let you know how I get on.
