I've got Tool and Dibs coming round tomorrow morning and hopefully they will get her started and running properly.
Tool is also going to do a compression test but I am a liitle worried about the outcome.
I will let you know how it goes

If you are doing the whole Robin Hood thing, then James needs a set for the 323 ;)

There is some good news and bad.
Tool and Dibs came over yesterday and spent about 5 hours trying to sort out some of the issues.
The good news is that the starter motor issue has been resolved. By a process of elimination they worked out that solenoid on the original motor was faulty and replaced it with the solenoid from the motor Ian sent me.
The car now starts but only if you squirt some Easy Start directly in to carb but the idle speed is at over 2000 revs. Once it falls below that it cuts out.
Dibs brought with him an SU carb refurb kit which he has left with me so now I have to find some one to rebuild the carb.
Absolutely astounded by the helpfulness of Tool and Dibs so great thanks to both of them.
Also they think the viscous fan is faulty and suggested I might fit an electric fan. I will have a look round the forum for any threads on this issue.
Cheers
Kevin

Basically, we took the two duff starter motors he had and made one good one. I got quicker at swapping them out as we went along :D

So now we could crank it, we tried to fire it up. No good. Not flooded, more the opposite. A can of quick start ether me jigger stuff and she fired right up.

I suspect the idle circuit is blocked. I haven't touched an SU carb before so Dibs left a rebuild kit for it. It pulls pretty hard and sounds healthy, but man does it backfire some.

Good news if you ask me. Just needs more work on the carb.

Good time had by all th:
