saved a Scottish icon from scrap yard, Hillman imp and it was world worst rust bucket. doing all the welds and make many hand made sheet metal to filled many holes. Now she's a bonnie and going to start the very first time in the hillclimb speed event next week end. Nothing is possible.

He does mean 'impossible' Josh but apexheid, as far as I know, is a very experienced person.

I don't know what his skill set is but can the blue car be saved by ordinary guys? Nope, not without years and years of grief ahead.
Trust yer old mates on here. It's definately one for the top resto men.......and why would they want to bother......they'd look around for a better start point.

The so I understand that it's a mammoth task and would take a couple of years, but my concern is I never can find an fb around that I can afford (£1000) being the budget for the vehicle, is there any reassurance to let me know whether I should bite the bullet or wait a little while longer? Do you think it's worth the view?

Worth a view.....always.....I'd go see it if it were close to me, just out of curiosity, and in my case, 3 decades of interest in these great cars.
But I'd go with a strict internal commandment......'Don't get involved with bidding on something you need like a hole in the head'.

But it's 100 miles each way for you......only you can judge that. A good learning mission if you come back empty handed but with a lot more knowledge. But don't get sucked in.........take an iron resolve with you Josh.
Oh and a decent jack if you want to look under.......DON'T get under the car though without axle stands.....or do you know that?

And maybe a far better resto project is out there for a few hundred smackers......a Pony do they say in London.....or is it a Donkey? (We say five hundred quid or so round here...{maybe a bit more}....straightforad Yorkshire folk that we are).

I know that much and I'm assuming they crop up here and there then? Do many projects get sold on here by chance?

This car was advertised on Retro Rides for months... and I was going to make him an insulting offer and strip it for spares Sadly, he needed to move it on this week and I wouldn't have the spare cash till next month. I hate to see one go to the great scrapyard in the sky, but I just don't think that one is saveable. I gather it had been in a farmer's field for years, so it will have sucked up all the moisture and rotted from the bottom up. I bet the floors will be dust Plus most of the damage was done by the farmer dragging it out of the field using a tractor, and bashing it off the gateposts in the process. If he's that sympathetic and careful (not!) how much other damage did he do to chassis rails etc? What did he actually tow it from, a tow point or a handy suspension arm?

I admire your brio in taking it on, but I'd have to say "wait for a better one"

I was thinking for spares would be good, however I don't have a space and I know spares (original) are becoming rarer and rarer. I think now you've convinced me not to, out of principle I might do down and look at it, but probably won't go for it, for someone with little experience the best thing I can do is listen to the advice given to me!

We pick up most stuff going through ebay & Gumtree. On here you might find a forum member wanting to sell a project.
Don't think they're that rare Josh......they come up surprisingly often in a poorer condition needing TLC.

Oh and my dad used to give me advice.......I always ignored it......
