Alot of the fellas on here have good clean cars but they spend time and money ensuring the rust monster is kept at bay. I have been advised too by people to check out importing one as I'd save thousands in having to weld one up. FB's hide their rust too, so its either repair a cheaper one or spend £5000 on a really really tidy one and have it all rust prevented ie wax oil everywhere.
The only other i can think of is the white one in England on piston heads if still there. Or is it the car and classic web site there is a white 84 for under four grand. I think you need 84 to bypass that Vrt you have, though as we are coming into 2016 so a late 85 might be OK.
If you are in no rush just keep saving but check out the Japanese car auctions or an importer near you and see what gems might be for sale. A nice late 12a turbo would be great to have with air con etc, something special and will hold its value.
Yet I think your rite, might as well keep an eye out on the forums invade anything does pop up if nothing comes along that suits I have someone who can import for me so I'll be going that route. Appreciate all the help. The blue one is still tempting me but I might as well wait and spend the extra 2 grand on the car I want rather than spending it welding one up and repairing one I'm not sure of.

if anything pops up then it will be on the latest 1st gen rx7 sightings thread, ebay, pistonheads, car and classic to name a few.
there is a for sale section too, depends on how long you want to wait. but guys are very good at posting on the latest 1st gen thread so keep an eye on it.
the blue car, take some pics and let us know what you are concerned with as lots of very experienced guys on here who know all about these cars and can advise. i had a look at the ad and it does look quite nice. i like the red stripes on the seats and he mentioned disc brakes and remote locking, so useful upgrades plus its on the road and ready to go. you have to factor this in as some cars require putting back on the road if they have been hiding in a barn
and it can add up!
just putting this out to you, have you ever considered other rotary cars if you'd like to get into them which are more available?
plenty of rx8's and i know of a very nice white fc with lots of upgrades which has been owned by a rotary mechanic so it has been properly maintained and is on the road too.

Ill keep an eye on the places you mentioned thanks for that. Honestly i've been keeping an eye on rx8's to see if a nice one pops up. I had a look at one recently but didnt end up buying the guy sold it before i could get a chance to get back up for it. Id have interest in a nice Jap rx8 (Personal preference wanting the jap one) or even an FD in need of engine work would interest me but because of the VRT both would need to be southern registered car's. I think i know the FC your talking about, Glen's one? He offered it to me already but if i was to get an FC id import a turbo one from japan, Me being particular again

 haha
