you're right though, the other 2 o-rings are for between the assemblies...never loosen

looks like I was suffering from "the fear" ...you know, thinking "if I balls this up...it could go horribly wrong" when in reality I should have pulled out the existing bits, slapped the new o-rings in there, and got on with it

I could do around 5pm today if that works, otherwise free from Sunday for a couple of weeks. It's a good idea to remove the thing completely. That way, you can clean it up and run some water thru to remove the inevitable brown sludge which will have moved in over the years.
And yes. 'the fear' ... sometimes followed by... 'if I hadn't touched it, the thing would still be running'.... then WWID? (What Would Ian Do?) ... followed by a post or two on this forum which is exactly why we all joined up in the first place

I'll have to give today a miss, got too much on really, but we should tie up on another day you're free, I'll have another crack at it at some point in the near future, and you're right, I should make the effort to take it all off

Yep, it was me being an ar$e

thanks to my newly purchased 23mm spanner I was able to remove the oil feed, and get the cooler off properly...the o-rings were flat, brittle, and had a ring of oil on the inside edge that made them look conical when I first looked

so, new o-rings, all back together, and no sign of any leaks at first test

Went to Shoreham last night for the Tuning Society meet...and I am pleased to say not a drop of oil was lost on the journey - the O rings have completely cured my leak under the cooler

Yay !!! That's excellent news. I'm wondering how many more uses there are now for a 23mm ring spanner because it seems that those o rings last for a long time.

Does anyone need these? I am ordering some from Mazda to collect later this week. If so PM quick.

The Mazda part number for reference is - 9954-10-1601 £3.04 + vat. (x2)
