Interesting that your gasket is the three stud type, I had to swap my pump housing out some time ago. Reverted to the original housing from the old motor and it was a 2 stud (from a S3). I didn't know there were two types so thanks for the post. EDIT. Three stud type is 13b FC/FD





Looks lke I'll be revisiting that state of engine undress as I've just discovered a weep at the front rotor housing. It's either the bolts weren't tight enough or the little gasket has failed. Good to know that they are still obtainable from mazda although i'll probably just make one.

You'll definitely need to use the 3 bolt water pump housing from the 13B motor. Is it a series 5 or series 4? You can tell by the thermostat housing - series 4 is 2 bolt flange, where series 5 has a 3 bolt flange for the thermostat housing neck and a recess as the thermostat has an o-ring rather than a gasket.

Series 5 will require a small amount of grinding at the back of the water pump housing to fit a 12A front cover.

Make sure the water pump and housing is torqued properly. The studs sometimes have a habit of breaking loose in which case you won't be able to get it tight enough. It might be worthwhile reinstalling the studs with new stud lock.

A bit of hylomar spray on the gasket can help with sealing.
