Little bit of an update on this.......

I've bought a GSL-SE front cover to mount the 13BT motor up.....









I could have used a 12a cover but I wanted to use a S4 oil metering pump and also take advantage of the ready made strengthened area under the pump to tap in my turbo oil drain...





Also bought a custom bracket to mount the S5 gearbox into the FB, a notoriously troublesome part of the swap can now hopefully be avoided...







A couple of nights ago, something magical happened....











resulting in the arrival of this...




which is now going to followed by lots and lots of this...

This is the list of stuff I bought Jesse...

1 x MegaSquirt PWM IAC Valve Control (TIP120) 'Mod-Kit'

1 x Zeal Engineering Daughterboard with Dual VR Conditioners

1 x JimStim v1.5 MegaSquirt Stimulator w/ Wheel Simulator -Unassembled

1 x MegaSquirt-II Programmable EFI System PCB v3.0 - Kit w/ BLACK CASE

I may end up needing a few more bits and pieces but this what I bought to start with based on advice from Steve, Aaron Cake and DIY-Autotune themselves.
DIY-Autotune who sell the kit actually spec the parts needed to run the system on a FC rotary and also Steve and Aaron have loads of experience with it so I've taken their advice.

The transmission mount was sourced by for me by Ramon. It came from Aus via Ramon in NZ

The GSL-SE front cover and OMP came from California.

Have you had a chance to take a look at the Megasquirt yet?

Wish I'd had that gearbox mount, would have saved me stacks of hassle.

If you need any other odds and sods from the US then shout as you could have it delivered to where the RX3 is, it'll be there another couple of weeks before it ships and they can throw it in the boot.

I'm just about ready to start to build the Megasquirt up but I need to buy one of those handy stands with a magnifying glass on it and a couple of croc clips to hold the circuit board because even with my reading glasses on I can't see the thing well enough to solder it... old age is creeping up on me
I've been doing a ton of reading to get my head around this before I start building it.

Yeah import tax is a ball ache.

You need one of them watchmakers devices to strap to your face.

I sort of have 2 threads in one here relating to this car..... the 13BT conversion and then a 12a engine swap to get me through this spring and summer.

My long term goal is to drop a S5 turbo II engine into this car but as this will take a year or two to prep and complete I wanted to continue to run my Elford engine for this year to get to some meets etc....

Sadly my engine had other ideas and blew up leaving the car unusable.

Keith then came up with a cunning plan which helped us both out. He'd got an Elford setup which he had never had the time to fit and the idea was that I'd borrow the engine out of his TWR RX7 which had a very strong engine in it and fit Keiths Elford stuff to it...
This was a win win situation.... I can borrow the engine until next winter and so get to use my RX7 for another spring/summer and Keith gets his engine converted to an Elford turbo and properly shook down so it can just drop straight back into his car and know it's sorted....... great idea

He pulled the engine out of his car....

and dropped it down to me along with a pile of Elford Turbo parts.



First job was to take the sump off and fit the Elford sump with an oil return for the turbo...



the 2 sumps were different....



the Elford sump came off an earlier engine and was in a pretty battered condition so I put the Elford oil return into the S3 sump I'd just taken off and refitted that.




Before refitting it I took the oil return off and cleaned it up....




then put it into the S3 sump, wire brushed the whole thing and gave it a heavy coat of satin black engine lacquer....



oh, and the engine mount as well.

Next day, I cleaned up for sealing surfaces on both the sump and the bottom of the engine with brake cleaner....



put a couple of beads of RTV silicone around it....



and bolted it back on.....also started fitting some more of the Elford stuff...





Next, I took my bonnet off for better access...



followed by the rad and fans....



then pulled my dead engine...













then lifted Keiths engine in...





and refitted the rad, fans and oil cooler lines...
