I have inquired but with no photos in the advert or coming from him privately, and with him so far from my location, I can't take a punt on something like this. The photo of the car is from 2007...

I have just received 20 photos privately from the seller. It's a rust bucket. Storing it under that tarp outside has caused some bad rot all over the outside of the body and in the engine bay at the very least. The roof is a mess. I wonder what it looks like underneath...

it's also too expensive for a parts car plus you couldn't give that interior away.... shame

You can replace the metal sun roof cheaply but if the exterior is looking bad the underneath is going to be shot too bits

I reckon that red s3 interior would sell for A$1,500-2,000 here. $600-700 just for the dash, $200 for the steering wheel. I would probably buy the spoiler.

If shipping wasn't so costly, there would be money to be made for an enterprising person.

This car as an example is about £13,000 imported from Japan. It has some rust (C's on the Japanese sheet) and it has apparently had a colour change. And the interior is kind of...missing a few things. So, a mint example is definitely £15,000-20,000. Crazy but I guess it is the way the market is going and the Japanese are bidding on these and buying these cars too because they now realise how cherished their old school sports cars are and the fact that so many are heading overseas. It's difficult for the Japanese to run such old cars though including the FD given local taxes, emissions laws, fuel prices, etc. so the guys pushing the prices up over there are the ones with money to blow.

Sounds like I might have to ship my car over and sell it in Japan then  How much are these cars worth in Australia and New Zealand now?

All 1st gens in Australia are currently around $15-30k for an unmodified one. We did have a recent auction where a s1 went for 55k but i consider that an outlier.

The cheapest is generally a modified or rolling shell s2 where you start at about 5k. S1 and s3 are more desirable and generally go for more.

This high km s3 just passed in for 15k: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/322790247786
