Ian included a picture of it in December 2016 in 'Roll Call 2'
It looked really clean then but it was probably an old picture. You will have to scroll down to see it

Ian might have more info if anyone is interested in the car.

Looks like an S3, has S3 interior and has the S3 strut tops.

S3 fuel flap and fueltank. No place for the bigger spare wheel.

What is the fuel flap difference? In the US S2 had the larger fuel tank and space saver spare, in the UK the larger fuel tank was introduced for S3 but kept full size spare with a lump in the carpet, so fuel tank is a bad way to establish series.

Your right Dave, I realised when I saw Ian's roll call photo that it wasn't that car

Only S3 comes without fuel flap lock and the fuel tank was bigger cause and reduced the place for the spare wheel. In the picture you can see the spare wheel isn't a compact spare wheel so the bodyshell must be S3/ FB VIN The bigger 63 Liter tank never will fit on a S2 bodyshell, there is not enough place for.

I've never had an S2 but all the ones I've seen the filler flap looked the same, no external lock. As I said, in some markets S2 got the bigger fuel tank.

I've never seen an S2 with that lock in the UK, all the ones i've seen look externally the same as the S3. In the US, the S2 got the bigger fuel tank.
"Fluid Capacities:
Fuel tank: 14.5 gal (1979 & '80) 16.4 gal (1981 & later)"

I can only assume fuel cap door lock was different in germany
