That is a useful lift you have there alright.
Not bad underneath, grind off what you can and a bit of welding needed in places.
I seen guys dipping a VW beetle and porsche 911 in an acid bath on TV, some part
of England it takes a while but only leaves good metal and takes all the rust, filler
etc away then welded up the holes etc and finally galvanised the shell.

All the best with it and keep us posted with your progress. :)

I would love to do the full acid dip but cost I guess would be a lot!

Present for myself from Australia!

Image

The UK version only had seatbelts in the front so got a set for all four seats so the kids can get in.

Image

Super low king springs to go with the new shocks I bought. Had these on my RX3 in Aus and loved them, hope they are as good as I remember.

Extractors or headers...on sale from 400 to 140 dingo dollars so couldnt say no!

Earlier in this thread I found this cut wire

Image

The reverse lights didnt work and advice told me that this would have been the cause so I joined them. I had done no other electrical work to the car yet when I went to start, it would turn over. The ignition lights came on but no engine turn. Had a scan under the hood and all look fine, tried again, nothing so I disconnected the freshly attached wire and it turned over straight away.

My reverse lights still dont work!

Any suggestions please?

It looks like someone has fitted a "Anti Theft" by shorting out the starter solenoid?
Perhaps there is a redundant or secret switch located in the cab :?:

Thats a good point, maybe it needs to be in reverse to start ??? Reconnect the wire and try it. Interesting diy anti theft if it does start.

Stripped the interior found surface rust and the holes that was expected in the rear wheel arches. After got everything out including the front carpet without taking the heater off (Thanks Ian), put a spare seat I have in to drive it too the mechanic. When I drove it home a few weeks ago to start the work, it was fine. Gauges worked, apart from the fuel, as its a custom tank, which I will change for an reco original take, this time the heat gauge flew straight to overheat. I guess is that as I disconnected a lot inside, its not working properly so drove it the few miles to the shop to get welded and get the shocks, bushes and springs fit. If its really overheating for no apparent reason, then I will trailer it back or go to a rotor mechanic to get fixed. I was going to take it there anyway to get my Dutch MOT. Time and the fact I dont store the car at my place noramlly has been a big hassle but now the ball is rolling.

Some pics of the inside. The rust on the drivers side rear wheel arch I shot is bigger that the passenger side and would take a good screw driving to push through but it still needs to be cut and fixed.

These is the rear wheel arch but photobucket wont let me rotate. Bolt/Knob should be at bottom of frame.

Happy with the slow progress.

Good work there Dean, when it is back home all together & tested it will have been worth it & you can enjoy all the hard work yay

If the temp goes to red as soon as you turn on ignition then it is shorting out by the sound of it :?:
If it goes up slowly Do Not Drive :!:
