I can't stop my mind from returning daily to Germany's extremely stupid laws about no mods, and I can't think of one single car ever, at any price, that doesn't NEED mods. Sure, some mods are easy to hide, like strokers, porting, cams, and better gear ratios. But there's no car ever where the only mods needed can be hidden. Looks like you have 3 options. Get diplomatic immunity, move away, or run the car in technically illegal form between inspections.

It's the same with the Japanese shaken, I understand. I think the car only has to be tested every five years or something, but it goes a long way to explaining the cheap(ish) cars flooding out of Japan modified to a very high standard. As I understand it, the only way you'd pass shaken was to essentially return the car to stock and that was something many people had neither the time nor money to do every five years on an extensively modified car. Cheaper just to sell it on through the auctions to some gaijin and start work on a new one

There's a German guy I've met, Patrick who has a decent modded T04Z-equipped FD that he brings over here to the UK to our local specialist to have work done on it, so I don't know if there's some loophole in the TÜV regulations where work performed in another country is exempt or isn't tested. Maybe Thomas can elbaorate?

Nice work.... Whats the weight of this engine compared to the rotary engine?

I didn't think of that until after the rotary was gone. This is sure to be more, but I'm not worrying, especially with all the other upgrades, the modest power, the tires, and the planned use and goals for this car. But that reminds me, there is plenty of clearance for 205/50s on the front.

Yesterday I turned the car around to do some welding after all that butchery, but then I discovered what a hypocritical dumbarse I am. I set a fender in place, and realized I hadn't moved the crossmember back. The front wheels were way too far forward. Now I have to move everything back an inch, then mock it up. And even if that goes well, now I have this hassle of the steering linkage. Even at an inch I'll still have slightly more wheelbase, and positive caster, than stock. I seldom worry about looks, and I don't mind the idea of the wheels not being centered in the wells, but this needs corrected.
