Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
trawling through some old hard drives tonight I found some folders full of old rx7 pictures.... how long ago was this and how times change.... you could put a at least a 6 in front of that price now!

Servicing all done. Nice fresh Castrol GTX for the motor, Castrol Axle Z for the Torsen LSD and Castrol EP90 for the gearbox. TWiR was up to her usual tricks again and refused to part with the gearbox filler plug.
Two days soaking in PlusGas penetrating spray did the trick.
Thanks to Ian for recommending a most excellent 12v pump to assist with gearbox filling duties.

Just over a week to go until Retro Rides Weekender at Goodwood.

Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
Final prep this afternoon. After a quick drive around the block, I glanced at the temp guage to see it sitting 3/4 of the way up the scale. Usually, the needle sits around 1/3 and will barely move from there so something wasn't right. Ran a few more tests with no change. Temp would rise under load then settle around halfway after extended idle. I could force the temp down by turning the heater to hot but that doesn't solve the issue
No leaks and fan was fine so a brief consultation and we decided to check the thermostat. Last got changed almost three years ago. Test revealed that it wasn't opening as much as it should so swapped for a new one.
It was never going to be that easy though. I stripped the thread nipping up the second bolt
and I was being careful as previous thermostat housing removal has seen snapped bolts. Luckily, one of the guys had the correct size to helicoil the bugger and we were back in business.
The needle sits around halfway now so I'll keep a close watch on the way down to Goodwood in the morning. An early afternoon has turned into a late evening but at least TWiR is still moving so I should be grateful for that.

Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
The main culprit is a faulty fan clutch so that will get sorted shortly. I'll use a spare viscous fan for the meantime but the upgrade to an electric item is imminent.

Re: TWiR 1986 S3 TWR
It is a good idea to check that your heater matrix is in working order. Having the ability to add an extra 'radiator' into the cooling circuit and bring temps down quickly really saved my weekend.
In other news, a stand-in has turned up for my broken Rx-8 gearknob

There was not one mention of 'Momo' in the eBay ad, nor in any pics but that's how it arrived ... in a Momo box

Anyway, it's got red stitching so I'll ignore the clearly cheap-ass fake packaging
