Whilst I was at work today my dad kindly pulled the engine and gearbox out. He has removed the gearbox and confirmed the clutch is 215mm.

He removed the inlet manifold as I was planning on changing the inlet "O" rings.

now this is the weird bit... he tells me its a 6 port engine?! I'm very surprised as I thought 12As were all 4 port other than some JDM cosmos?

I can't confirm this as car is at my grandad's barn over the winter, so I wont get to see it untill saturday. I will get pictures of it. I'm almost telling my dad he's imagining things... I looked on google images of 12a 6 ports. h:

12As did come as 6 port motors. They were like S3 motors though, and had 225mm clutches and the lighter S3 rotating assembly.

Best post some pics.

I will definitely have to get pictures. I am still dubious, I thought the engine in my car was an S2 engine, and the clutch is 215mm, this seems to make sense to me.

I'm pretty surprised at what my dad has told me, I imagine that there aren't many of these engines here which makes me doubt that's what I have, although when I had the carb off the manifold looked completely different to the S3 manifold I have, and looked like the 6PI intake I have been looking at on google images.

Does anyone else have one of these engines? Where can I get inlet and exhaust gaskets for it? Is it worth sourcing a more common engine?

You just have to use what you can find when it comes to 12As now imho.

I expect Mazda will do the gaskets if you can find the part number. The exhaust gasket is the same as other 12As.

Stick with it if it's a good motor.

Jon Newman has one.

You are correct, we do not function well in adverse weather conditions as we are not use to that much rain down here in a warmer drier climate
