Kevin, get your car out of there now before he talks to his mates and decides to try to screw some more cash out of you by refusing to release your car until you hand over some more money.... you've nothing to gain by leaving it there another day.... he couldn't finish it by the end of the month for a million quid.Get it out of there, regain possession of it and all the parts then put your experience with this twat behind you and get a proper restorer to sort it out and get you back on the road.

I got someone to come and take a look to take the job over and he was not keen to take it on. The wings, doors and spoilers were off the car and there were a number of rust repairs underway. He said that he thought the repairs were being done to a high standard but it was not something he wanted to get involved in.
The current guy says it will in paint next week but I believe I am more likely to be playing for England tonight against the French in Paris :(

I am going to get a new engine for my Elford.
Whilst there is nothing really wrong with the original, although it has done 70k miles, the opportunity has arisen to get a better engine and I thought I would replace it before the car is finally painted.
I am not sure what gaskets and other consumables I will need to do the job.
I know Ian and Rip have rebuilt or replaced their engines with an Elford set up so they will have first hand experience, but all guidance would be greatly received.

you'll need an exhaust manifold gasket from Rockauto, an inlet gasket and 'O' rings from Mazda, some Garrett turbo gaskets and 20mm stainless core plugs off Ebay...

you will also need some RTV silicone to bond the Elford sump onto your replacement engine, some proper exhaust paste ( not that crap Holts stuff) and some copper crush washers for the oil feed pipe banjo's.

Depending how far you want to go with it.... it's easier to strip out the engine bay for a really good job.... when I changed my engine, I took out most of the stuff, masked up the loom, brake lines and a few other bits that I couldn't be bothered to remove then rubbed it all down, primed it, top coated then lacquered it...

When it was all back together it looked stunning.... it's a bit more work but if the engines out then it's the best time to do it..... nothing looks worse than a fantastic new paint job and a scruffy untouched engine bay... just makes it look like it's been done on the cheap.

hi kev, how do you know your replacment engine is better than your own ? if it aint broke dont fix it.maybe pull it out and paint and tidy. and wait till needed. i ran mine for 10 years on old engine before i killed it. after my rebuild , streetported, lots of polishing. and many hours fiting side seals etc. it was worth the wait, it really flies like a screaming banshee luv it, but i know whats been done and how well. hows the body work progressing.?
