Hello everyone,

My name is Scott W. Pena, I live in Union City Michigan.

I am in the process of buying one of these amazing first gen rx7s. I have joined this forum in hopes of understanding these awesome engines and cars. the fb that i am buying is black with some rocker panel rust. it also needs a new rear axle and transfer case. Since i am replacing these parts i was wondering if there are some common oem or aftermarket upgrades i can do.

Hiya, Scott sorry for the late reply. Hope the car is everything you'd hoped it would be. I'm not sure I know what the rocker panel is, might be something that loses translation from American to English? Certainly rust is the enemy of these cars, check religiously for it. Especially suspension mounts, sills and in the rear seat pan. There's a guide on what the check in the buying section on here.

Otherwise, hope it's a sound car, and welcome to the forum

Hi Scott,
welcome to the forum h:
rocker panel rust is one of the most common problems with these cars as they get older, usually just ahead of the rear wheels under the B post.... many cars on this forum have had work to this area.
Great that you're picking your car up today, look forward to seeing it. If you get a chance, please start a thread in the 'rides and projects' section then we can follow your exploits with this car.

cheers,
Ian

Its not what i hoped it would be yet. :? But as soon as i get the GSL-SE 84-85 rear axle I am sure it will live up to my expectations. This will be my first front engine rear wheel drive car and I cant wait to feel the torque curve. My buddy that I got the car from said he got it up to 152 miles per hour/ 244.62km/h on the highway using a GPS to calculate his speed relative to the earth.

Yep, 120 mph if you're lucky with a standard 12A.

I figured that was stretching the truth for a naturally aspirated engine. It was owned by a police officer who rebuilt the engine himself. So there might have been a bit of extra power, but i doubt enough for that speed, especially since it retains the stock air filter/breather. I assume that is a major bottle neck. Its so cool though.
