anyone know where the map sensor/boost sensor is located on a 12at?

Firewall on LHS iirc.

EDIT: You can see it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Wankel_engine

Correcto - same place on the FB as in the Cosmo, and the S4/5 Turbos.

I suppose the one off that JDM 12at car went with the engine did it?

It would have done as it's needed for fuel calculation.

Does it also drive the boost gauge? Is that your thought process? The FC units look very similar, and the connectors are close if I recall too. Calibration hard to guess without looking at the scales and measuring etc..

yeah,
I'm looking for a boost sender to drive this boost gauge...

I know if I used the one off same car that the clock came out of then the calibration would be right..... I can buy a universal one of ebay but then I'd have to calibrate it to give the right readings on the gauge.

Well - to drive the gauge I'd expect they all give a near enough output.

Swapping between engines for fuel and timing control not so much as there are different part numbers for reason.

I have an N318 - Series 4 turbo sensor that I reckon will work just peachy you're welcome to try - your gauge only reads to 7.7psi and the FC dash gauges read not quite 1 psi more than that. I'd expect the gauge to not be 100% accurate but the value of the gauge, aside from being a cool toy, is showing a reading that isn't normal - no boost or off the scale and in your case - normal boost should sit inside the gauge parameters.
