Newbie from Edinburgh

Gidday 1st gen club

I'm originally from Enzed and now living in Edinbubba, UK. I bought a first gen Rx-7 when I was 18 - cost me my first years wages after leaving school and I had it for about 14 years. It was a fantastic car - had many memorable road trips and some proper big eye moments where my ambition exceeded the 7's limits of adhesion during a few 'friendly' competitive track days with mates. Unfortunately my Rx7 must have been a victim of one of these alien abductions that you see people being interviewed about on youtube. I went back to where it was parked after work one day to find it had evaporated. And at the same time I saw a a gleaming disc like object that hovered long enough for me to take a few shaky stills before it too disappeared …..just as well I had those blurred images too - I had to try and convince a stern looking insurance man of my story.
I didn't buy a replacement - I was too much of a void to try and fill. Instead I bought a sensible, economical toyota shopping trolley which I had for a few years and pretended I didn't miss my rotisserie powered fun machine.
I went back home recently and a friend of mine showed me photos of the RX3 he had kept since we were younger and restored over the last few years and I caught up with another mate of mine who had held on to his series three. It kind of awoke the RX7 child in me again. So I was glad when I came across this website that specialises in first gen 7s. I scan the rx7s for sale more regularly these days on the off chance i might come across something but even if i don't I thought it might be nice (and acceptable I hope) if I live vicariously through the experiences of other happy first gen owners.

Cheers
Sean
I once discovered the meaning of life……… but forgot to write it down

Note that the 'Spotters Link' goes from page 1 (where it opens) right up to the present at page 200 plus.

I'm from Auckland originally - yep Just Another Friendly Aucklander :) and have been over here a few years now. Thanks for directing me towards the spotters corner part of the website - I can see I'll be spending a few long evenings sifting through links. It's great that there is such a dedicated following here. The car I had originally was a mica white series I Rx7 - very straight and original except for the tweaked engine. I've seen a few low mileage first gens on Japanese websites and am tempted to stop in Japan on my way home next time for a nosey. I don't know if anyone has seen this guy's site but he comes across some interesting mazdas either abandoned or at car meets.

I did find this Rx on gumtree but it is a bit far for me to cycle along and check out - hopefully someone could save it

Wonder if it started life that colour or if it's just done the same thing my teeth has :? One of the great mysteries of life that one; how come your hair goes white at the same rate your teeth go brown? :(

Nothin wrong with being a JAFFA! :D I'm from Glenfield, on The Shore aye. That yellow series 2 could have some good potential I reckon 0-0

Obviously a Jaffa is something different in Kiwi than what it is in English :o
