£650 fb

Post by Keefyboy »

Hi everyone, I've spent so much time on this forum! The amount of info on here is unreal! So pleased to have found such a forum, now here's a pi of my current project.
A 1982, series 2? RX-7 that's been off the road for over 10 years, the last MOT cert I've found states that's it's done a 1000 miles since 1999! Current mileage is 93k and in need of some love.
Hope to hear your views, more pics to follow when I start a readers rides thread, cheers

Hi Keith,
Very welcome mate.
We saw this Series 2 car last Feb, up for sale in Chelmsford area. At that time something said to me 'will this make it back on the road'........I wasn't sure then, but it looks nice in the pic.

Colour is 'Renaissance Red', paint code R3 if you didn't know that.

The DVLA reg date is interesting......March 1985 for a 1982 car but still on an 'X' plate not a 'B' plate. So maybe previously run somewhere abroad before coming here?

Hi thank you for the reply, the car was apparently in Cyprus for its first few years, not sure if it was bought over there or not?
I'm currently working my way through the car, which involves cleaning of light rust on the underside, and undersealing with overpaint able underseal. Then the suspension components of a series 3 will be shot blasted, painted and new superpro bushes installed. Along with a general recommission of brakes, lines, maybe a recored radiator, matrix and oil cooler.
Main thing I need is to repair or replace the lower rear valance as that is badly rusted out, the one on the series 3 looks in better shape so going to try and use that one.
Any comments or thoughts would be greatly appreciated, cheers guys

Hi Keith and welcome, good luck as nice to hear of another RX7 going back on the road. Where are you in the UK, and don't forget to take plenty of photos.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to getting her on the road, I have driven this a short trip round a private road when I first bought it and she drove very well and still started up nicely the other day when I put her in the unit.
I'm concerned about the rot at the rear on the lower panel and on the corners where the arches meet so may have to get a professional to do that work once it's on the road.

Hello mate, looks a good base to start - don't see many in that colour either.

Where are you roughly?

Hi mate yeah it's really solid bar the rear valance and lower rear quarters plus the engine runs mint and drives well to say how long it's been laid up!
I'm in between Nottingham and derby mate
Cheers
