Another Australian checking in...

Hey everyone

I found out about this forum on AusRotary.com and checking out some of the great builds you guys are working on. I am administrator of AusRotary and maintain my build log there. I have owned the same 1985 Australian-delivered series 3 RX-7 for over 15 years now and am still in the process of putting together my dream machine. It was originally a 12A manual in V3 Tender Blue Metallic and grey interior.

I am doing a full restomod, bringing back the exterior and interior to original condition, other than some upgraded 17" wheels and the aftermarket spoiler that has always been on the car (and I believe was fitted by the original owner).

Mechanically, it is currently fitted with a series 5 13B turbo block which is running naturally aspirated using a modified 12A nikki carburettor. I am about to fit the whole front end of a series 5 with adjustable coilover suspension and FD brakes. I also have a high flow series 5 turbo to fit. Induction will be straight LPG via a large single carburettor and modified FD 13B-REW intake.

Here's some pics of my ride:

Hope to contribute to the forum as much as I can.

That sounds like an interesting project. Good luck with it.
Unfortunately I couldn't open the photo attachments.

Cheers

Try posting the pics with PhotoBucket. That's what most of us are using. Sounds like a really interesting project ... especially liking the LPG part of the equation. :)

Yeah the LPG is something a few people have done here.

There are some tradeoffs with LPG, but most of these are offset by the advantages. Australian LPG is locally sourced and cheap - roughly 1/3 the price of premium unleaded or E85 - and although consistency is varied, the octane is generally much higher than premium. I think around 110RON? Safely running over 15psi should not be a problem.

The main advantage for me though is that running a dedicated LPG system in a pre-1986 car puts you outside the Australian Design Rules for emissions in place at the time, meaning you can legally run any fuel/induction setup you want. Bigger turbo, ditch emissions gear, bigger engine, aftermarket ECU, whatever. The only requirement is a CO test at idle which is easy to pass. No catalytic convertor or crankcase emissions required either. I will need an engineers certificate but this will be for safety, not emissions. The bigger brakes and upgraded suspension should help satisfy this. I'll also need to pass noise levels, but I think I can do that too with a turbo engine.

I've been planning this all and building up my parts collection for a while!

Welcome Admin KYPREO what a major honour h:
13B feeds by a moded nikki sounds interesting. Do you do the carb modify by yourself ? Read some good advice from "Oneiros" also Aussie nikki god in the US forum. Picture, picture, picture...... ;s;
