I know some of you guys have bought new tyres recently for your 1st gens... I'll be looking for a set of 205x60x14's soon.
If you've bought some lately, could you please post which type you went for, the cost and whether you think they are any good?

cheers,
Ian

Getting harder to find, S3 tyres. I was once led to believe they were only made for RX7, Lotus Elite (?) and the rears of an MR2.

My last ones were BF Goodridge, Touring, and they've been great. Roadholding at 55 mph is magnificent.....

But why I chose them was because the whole tyre construction was very similar to the original Dunlops.....the side wall didn't baloon either like some do. That spoils the look of the whole car in my opinion.

If you've got a local garage that fit tyres for sensible rates then Camskill are pretty good and stock a pretty wide range.

If you fancy a chance and make the swap to 15" wheels then tyres are cheaper and more readily available. :)

I have Falkens on Vyv, not sure of the exact model number...but they're pretty good, and reasonably priced :)

Camskill get a thumbs up from me too :D

Just typed 205 60 14 into Mytyres, com. - You don't have a great deal of choice do you?

(Although they do have the Falken ZE912's mentioned by Spoddy, and of which I have heard good things...)

And just like 205 60 13's, no Winter tyres....

But there are Michelin Alpins and Continental Wintercontacts etc. in 185 70 14, which will give you the same gearing - and trust me, they will give you more grip and nobody will notice they are narrower....

(and spare a 0-0 thought to my poor son who has just had to pay £800 plus fitting for a set of 245 45 18 Continentals for his 350Z.... 0-0 )

Just paid £750 for 3no 255x40 zr18 P-Zero Assimetricos for the XJR..... that's £1000 a set and I'm told that's the last I'll get at that price, they're going up again next year..... rip off!

But make sure you tell your insurance company as its a change from spec. (Sorry but I doubt they'll smile sweetly and say OK either).

Sorry Dave but you are behind the times! (impossible! I hear you cry....)

That was last year.

This autumn the AA and RAC got the insurance companies to agree that this was stupid, so they have agreed that they don't need to be told and will not increase premiums.

If you buy a set of more expensive wheels to go with the tyres you do of course still need to tell them about it.

Righto, good to hear that the insurance companies are being more relaxed about small mods.

I never knew what to tell 'em so threw every mod into the pot.......yes including the red stripe.....that shook 'em up.... ;s;
