Time to introduce myself again as the proud new owner of A7 RXY which was very kindly sold to me by DIBS. I'm sure a few of you have been wondering who purchased this car that DIBS took so much pride in taking care of for so many years. I am extremely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of being the new owner of this beauty, and I promise to take as much care and pride in it as he did. I also know how hard it was for him to part with the car after all those years of loving care and attention. Thank you again DIBS.

Currently I have the car in a secure professional storage space pending moving to the UK on a more permanent basis. Things are racing ahead in that respect and hopefully by the end of September I will be able to take Rexy out of storage permanently and keep him in my own secure garage. Weather and time permitting you may well then spot me and the car cruising the mean streets of Harrogate and at various car shows in North Yorkshire. For now, I have had to content myself with a drive around the car park at the storage location!

good job there Removing alarms is like diffusing a bomb... cut the wrong wire and you're in for a world of pain

Indeed. Took me about 3 1/2 hours to trace every wire and draw up a wiring diagram, and understand it, before I started the actual removal. That itself took under an hour.

Sorry to say this but now you why I didn't try

New boots today. First the old ones:-

I know the outer rim should be polished, but not diamond cut, but this was proving difficult to achieve, so powder coating the same as the pockets seemed like a good compromise. In due course my other set will be done with polished rims when I can find the right wheel finisher to do exactly that. Now all I need is a new old stock, OEM set of center caps, but I know that aint going to happen ever!

Front end suspension refurb now complete with new springs, dampers, bushes etc thanks to the box of spare parts DIBS left me in the boot. I would like to say I did it all myself and everything went smoothly, but I currently just don't have enough space around the car in the garage, or an outside space to work in, to risk doing it myself. So the work was farmed out to Keith Taylor, of Sixteen80 Limited in Knaresborough. Despite never having worked on a rotary before, Keith took a couple of weeks researching and reading the copy of the original Mazda service manual I have in binders in order to make sure everything went smoothly. Ordering any additionl bits and pieces in advance and finishing the job, and a service quickly and to a very high standard. I also got Keith to adjust much of the play out of the steering at the same time.

Give Keith a shout if you find yourself in a similar boat and need help. He only deals with classic cars, and always seems to have some very expensive, sometimes exotic, and sometimes rare customer cars in the shop.

Congratulations, there was you saying you couldn't wait to do it .
I must admit due to the need of extra space, that's why I tackled the rear first, I'll be interested to hear if you feel any difference now it's running on poly bushes and if it rides any lower.
