Coolant level sensor

I am currently fitting our new radiator which looks good and is a good fit...so far. One small issue is for some reason the threaded hole in the top is slightly larger than the thread of the sender .....so to start with I will have to leave it plugged.
I think the dash has a low level warning light? is there also a buzzer??
Has this been encountered by anybody else.
On the plus side, the old rad on closer inspection does look like the core could well be pretty bunged up , fingers crossed.

If you get the light and not buzzer but annoying ding dong warning bell, you can ground the sensor wire and that will stop it
, my wire snapped off from the sensor so I grounded it until I got a replacement.

thank you, so with coolant to the correct level the sensor in effect is grounded and if it drops it breaks continuity to operate the warning systems.
I actually wondered if I could fit a header tank as a better option to the overflow bottle, with a level sensor in it too. I have done this to a Triumph Stag successfully and it offers great peace of mind for a car that suffers badly if the level drops just a little in the rad. (high water pump stops circulating!)

light on but no sound warning. I need to work out another level sensor for the larger hole in my new wonder how the original with just a single wire actually works! it is fitted with a rubber washer and seems to have no second metal contact.........can anybody enlighten me?

As you said before Russ, the single wire sensor grounds via the liquid, therefore no liquid, no ground and the alert system is triggered.
