Exterior black trims flaking

Post by Adrian »

Hi there
I need to refurbish/paint the black trims on my rx7 series 2 that I'm restoriing along with the door window frames handles and locks. My question is ito me they look like they should be satin black. Would that be correct or are they gloss black any advice is greatly appreciated
Thanks

Bumping this up. I know it is a fairly old post now but something i can't find documented.

I am also looking to do mine. They look satin black but any confirmation would be amazing

Thanks

Satin is correct .. they’re stainless steel so give them a really good key (blasting is best) and then a good etch primer otherwise they won’t last very long!

They do come off.. but it’s a hell of a faff.. you will need new clips as they’re so brittle.. there is a small screw at the bottom of the side pieces.. they then slide down (be as gentle as you can but with enough force to slide the trim down over the clips).. the top and bottom once again are clipped on.. and the side pieces over the doors twist downward towards you.. these are the hardest to get off without damaging in my opinion!

I got my clips from Mazdatrix. Not the cheapest by far.. but was painless to order and arrived pretty quickly

It is worth doing in my opinion though as the A pillars are a known spot for rust.. especially if the screen isn’t original.. usually only found once it’s too late.. a bit of preventative maintenance is the best way !

Phils Rotary in Aussie sells clips. Make sure you don't buy from one of the scam pages that replicate them though. IIRC, Phils is all on ebay

If placing an order. It might be worth grabbing a bunch of goodies from them aye. They have a lot of clips/trim/rubbers etc
