AFH84Y SERIES 2 ELFORD
milage is 46980
the car has been sorn since 2001 and not started since then. The car was up for sale on Ebay and located in Hook, just off the M3. The car has one previous owner who had the car as a company car. The seller did manage to find the service history and some interesting letters and invoices from Elford, most of the services back in the 80s running into many hundreds of pounds. Looking at the old MOT's and service invoices the car averaged about 2,000 miles per year
I purchased the car on the 17th April, car was delivered the next day.

The work begins
My biggest concern was the engine as i had not heard it running, so oil change carried out, new battery fitted and add some fuel 1 gallon to what i thought was an empty tank.
engine fired up but cut out shortly after. Fuel starvation and carburettor blocked solid with varnish.
Stripped and cleaned carburettor and car started and run fine, although there was a smell of stale being burnt.
pumped out 6 gallons of stale fuel.
removed fuel tank, axle and all components for overhaul cleaning and painting.
all 4 siezed brake callipers removed and overhauled.
Pulled car out of garage Friday to pressure wash underside and remove rust with grinder.
It has'nt stopped raining since then.
any way some pics as promised.








cant wait to get axle back on to get car back in garage as front screen leaks like a sieve (that will be another job)

now at the mercy of the weather and my workload

That looks in really good nick under there, even the plates where the radius arms mount haven't rotted yet. Great stuff! Any idea why the front screen leaks though? Have the A-pillars gone under the trim pieces?

that looks very solid underneath... a touch of surface rust is to be expected..... you've certainly got stuck into it since you've bought it.... fair play!

If you find you need hydraulics.... master cylinders & slaves etc plus brake rebuild kits, Rockauto in the US is the place to get them... dirt cheap and rapid shipping, usually less than a week from the US...... buy them in the UK and they'll sting you big time.

Good to see this Elford getting some deserved love-like Nik said that's very clean under there for an untouched S2. Even the fuel tank seems to have held up.

ahh i was wondering how everyone linked their pictures, thanks for that.
regarding the screen leak i removed the trims to check the A pillars. they do have some surface corrosion but the problem seems to be the sealant has degraded. this has had a repair attempted in the past as the trim was sealed onto the roof and pillars. temp repair carried out for now, sealed around edge of screen with silicon.
now need a set of trim clips and remove and re-seal screen. may be good idea to remove screen prior to re-spray

The fuel tank was pretty solid although the inside was caked with varnish which i had to use a steam cleaner to remove.

if it's still got the original factory fitted bonded screen in it, be extremely careful trying to remove it..... they are bonded in unbelieveably well and most crack before you manage to get them out. With the screen trims off, there may be enough room to reseal the screen and paint the surrounding metalwork unless your screen leak has caused rust between the screen sealant and the frame.
It's best to leave the screen in if possible.... unless it's already damaged of course.
Most screen tend to leak on these cars and the pillars rot if the car has had a replacement screen fitted at some point.

The lack of corrosion is impressive! Hope for your sake there's no tin rot hiding anywhere else.
