The wing mirror task has been knocked down the long list of jobs I want done before the shows start up again next year. As soon as I get chance to have a play properly with them il get pics up. The rx4 been taking up my spare time last couple of months. Hopefully not to far of starting the engine rebuild in couple of weeks.

Havent updated for ages but things have been moving forward slowly. Engine pulled and stripped. For the car to have been running with no problems at all before it came off the road what we found was a bit of a suprise/shock.







It was always going to be rebuilt but time to dig out reserve housings me thinks.

Looks like it got a bit of heat into it.

You gonna put some carbons in it?

Gonna use another set of housings and some apex seals from oz. The springs under the apex seals were as good as flat. Its like they have been chattering away to cause the damage.

Funny wear, innit. Is it only around the bottom of the housings? It's almost as if something's corroded under the edge of the chrome... had it been standing for a long time? Water seal failure?

Its a strange one, it was running fine no problems before it came off the road for winter. The way it started, ran and performed I wasn't expecting that.

You can actually see chatter marks in the housing. Im wondering if by running premix has helped keep compression?

Gas pressure on compression stroke was holding the seals against the housing, as soon as the exhaust port opens pressure drops and those seals start bouncing around like a landy at full pelt off road.

I see. they have done a fair bit of bouncing around. Hey ho on with the rebuild.
