Thanks, worth thinking about, do you reckon the steering wheel splines would be the same, only i have a quick new steering wheel and boss for the RX7?

The steering wheel splines are 100% the same, I ran an FB steering wheel in my mx5 for a while and vice versa. The control stalks also look identical, to s2 FB anyway.

Once I start to get it set up, I will post the progress, good and bad !

Be a while yet tho, but i have nearly all the parts i think i need, the rack mount to crossmember is the trickiest part.

Mk1 MX 5 Steering column bought and on it's way.

The rack will need to sit in the same position as the steering tie bar so that it clears the sump/gearbox bell housing.

I like where this is going. Any updates?

BTW -- there are US companies that will modify OEM racks --> http://www.unisteer.com/seach_by_vehicl ... ength.html

No movement yet, still working on sorting the shell, although looking again at the sump picture, it will be a challenge to get the rack in there, support could be the main problem.

It looks to me like some robust brackets could be attached to the aft of the front lower crossmember. You can do it. We have faith in you :D

That's what I was planning, it all depends on the centres of the mounting points on the rack, and if that will suit the width of the sump pan.

I am planning to use a Ford Escort MkII rack, as I can then get a rack that has 2.5 turns lock to lock, we call them 'quick' racks. I guess there are a number of power racks that you could de-power and use, but I thought I would go the Escort rack route initially.
