Absolutely.

They have helped me with a few design issues I was struggling with.

Just need to see one in the flesh so to speak.

I first saw an ex works car in August 1984, driven by David Maslen, with co-driver Andy Balfour, both local to me. David was doing the British Open Championship and as a shake down event he entered the 1984 Bodiam Stages organised by SWL Motor Club Hastings (my club at the time) which were held in and around land that was used for the now defunct Bodiam Hillclimb.

I was car no 60 in my Mk1 Escort Mexico, David was something like Car 1 or 2. Unfortunately the Mazda never ran right all day and eventually they gave up and retired. I however finished fourth in Class and 30th overall !

The RX7 left a lasting impression on me (no shit eh ?) although at the time I thought it a funny looking car.

However a few years later David had sold the car and sadly I saw it's new owners completely destroy it on a stage rally near Salisbury. I was watching the car through the stage (more listening rather than seeing) then I heard the bang and saw a huge explosion of fibreglass panels, glass and other bits flying through the air.

I saw it later on a low loader, it looked destroyed. I don't know if the owners ever bothered to rebuild the car, but I will try to find out as I am still in contact with a chap who was the mechanic who looked after David's car.

He has also offered to see if he has any information as well as what he can remember of the car to help me with my build.

So it was an MRTE car that got me into RX7's in the first place.

That's awesome

Is it wrong that the bit of that car I covet the most is the gearknob?

probably!
seems strange to me that the rest of the dash and switchgear is bespoke and yet it uses the standard indicator and wiper switch gear.

Yeah, it just doesn't have the same panache in Lego Orange FRP. Carbon kevlar weave makes it much more sexual 8-)
