Which plugs?

Post by Lucky »

Trying to get some stuff together for a mini-service, and I realised I've no idea which plugs to use  Never swapped them before on the 12A and the car isn't here so I can't just read off the old ones.

Much obliged, thankyouplease! Anyone got a link for super-cheapy ones even more the betterer :D

mumble mumble mumble. Yes but you don't get surly behaviour and a know all attitude from your laptop when ordering do you? All part of the experience.

Cheers Dave. Shoulda got the Champions, they have a better logo

Next stupid question, how the hell do I check the gap? My feeler gauges are all too wide to fit in between the electrodes :?

EDIT: that's "broad" rather than "wide", before anyone says "use a thinner one"

No gap checking required Nik. The triple tips are welded into place exactly and most of the erosion in use takes place on the centre core electrode.

Remember one thing.......Torque......the aluminium housing will not take overtightening so torque up with a torque spanner.

13 ft lb from my memory brain box.....should know it in metric but afraid I don't.

It's a nice job on the 12A....I like doing this one....

Are you sure these will work Dave?
I only ask because our 2nd 1st Gen ran perfectly on a test run before buying. I asked the (Non Mazda) supplying garage NOT to service it but they did.

After boiling up on the way home, it took me 3 days over one Christmas to find out why it was constantly overheating......I took the rad out and backflushed, stat checked, timing checked, etc, etc.
It was the plugs.....a Champion fitment but I don't recall which plug (1988 for goodness sake). A double or single tip, not triple.

I would only fit the NGK or Denso triple tips myself, but hey if you know these ones are good for !2A, so be it.
