Re: just seen this...
that looks like a jacking dent Ronnie but £800 is too much for a standard spec project car..... it had no mot, didn't run, had been resprayed and yet had rust coming through again.... makes you wonder about the quality of the prep for the respray...
you're better off out of it mate....you can buy a mot'd car for that sort of money and tidy it up as you go.

Re: just seen this...
oh i know, go with intuition which i did.
owner got the money he wanted, so he doesn't care.
but you're right ian, if a jack did that, then what state is the chassis really in eh?
i'd be spending more than that to get one as if i go to england, its all the transport costs
and worrying about getting home ok. not many over in n.ireland unless they come out of
hiding. the guy who fitted his rad fan, works on mazda's and has a green fb, but he wanted
2600 for it. that was a few years back not sure if he still has it or would take a grand less or so.

Re: just seen this...
I think the white car has either been repeatedly jacked in the same place until the chassis has deformed or it's been grounded at some time. It's a "shall I take a chance" car and I don't know what I would have done.
The green car I think you're talking about is one that was shown at NEC in 2005 when it was still in England. The NI guy works at a Mazda Dealer Yeh?
I still have a mobile number from April 2009 when it went up for sale last time. If it still works.

I'd have done what Ronnie did and left it... £800 is too much for a non running, un-mot'd and rusty car.....perhaps worth a chance at half that amount but otherwise.... not for me.codge wrote:I think the white car has either been repeatedly jacked in the same place until the chassis has deformed or it's been grounded at some time. the fella i am talking about is the owner of mazdabits in n.ireland, newtownards. i have spoken to him on the phone, he is called derrick.codge wrote:I think the white car has either been repeatedly jacked in the same place until the chassis has deformed or it's been grounded at some time. now he told me he had done a lot to the car so needed that kind of money for her, so i am not too sure exactly what she is like, but might give him a call again and see what he has knocking about.
its a mint green colour, brown interior, how standard i am not too sure but he went past my other mate john very fast one day in her lol. he told me she was a nice car.

Re: just seen this...
i am glad i did too as i was worried about buying something i couldn't get an MOT for as any chassis repairs are frowned upon. i get told i have to spend 1500 or more to get something in good shape. i know some have welded their fbs underneath, but in general when you say you can get an MOT'd car for a bit more than the asking price of the car i seen, what order are they in underneath?ian65 wrote:I'd have done what Ronnie did and left it... £800 is too much for a non running, un-mot'd and rusty car.....perhaps worth a chance at half that amount but otherwise.... not for me.codge wrote:I think the white car has either been repeatedly jacked in the same place until the chassis has deformed or it's been grounded at some time. Re: just seen this...
maybe in NI you'll have to pay £1500 to get a solid car.... I don't know .....but over here you don't. The last 2 1st gens I've bought over the last 2 years have cost £780 and £960 respecively, both had full mot and both were spot on underneath.spoddy wrote:

Re: just seen this...
well thing is thats what i have been told i'd have to pay. there was a red one in newry and the man wanted 3200. all original no welding or respraying.
i thought it was alot for an FB and by the time i decided to contact him on gum tree, the ad was removed.
if i could get one for what you payed i'd be very happy, but there wouldn't be as many here as in england so the price goes up i suppose.
both of them look great ian. how did you find them?
i'll ring derrick and see what he knows, there is a car show coming up and a few guys who rally them will be going, so never know what might come up
in conversation, always good to know a few other enthusiasts too.

Re: just seen this...
I would have put a figure of about £400 for that chassis section to have been professionally repaired? Just a guess.
I paid £200 each wheel arch for the dreaded reinforcing plates to be professionally repaired on my car. A lot more fiddly work there than plating the chassis I would have thought?
My reinforcing plates were starting to crack through at about 51,000 miles and only 15 years careful road use (on a 23 year old car).
So they all go at this point some time. Just not a thing to get upset about - just expect it is my view. (Not the chassis - that is unusual).
