1985 Automatic

Post by m swann »

So I am looking at a 1985 Automatic.

I have never driven, seen or read anything about them. Any ideas on what to look for versus the "normal" standard versions.
When in doubt....hit the gas.

A mate made 188rwp with his bridge 48ida setup and changed to s5 turbo and made 206rwhp..

The boxes can be built tuff and. Run one in my little drag car.. Holds just under 450rwhp with ease and is good for 650-700rwp with a few grand thrown at it..

The auto transmission suits a rotary rather well as the torque converter tends to mask the lack of low end torque produced by the motor. Just make sure that the gearchanges are smooth and that there is no flaring between shifts. And maybe budget to have the transmission fluid flushed and filters changed.
And most of the necessary adjustments for the auto trans are covered in the workshop manuals too.
