Suspension upgrade / shocks

Post by biznatch »

Hi all,
I've been having some some difficulty sourcing upgraded S3 shocks (front and rear).
I have a set of lowering springs ready to go but figure if im going to the trouble of fitting springs I may as well upgrade the shocks at the same time.

I ordered twice off EBay and once from a US company, each time I got an email after the transaction to say they didn't actually have any in stock and there was no word word from the manufacturer as to when they would become available. One company even decided to send me FC shocks insisting they would fit.... (hp)
I was hoping to get tokico (blues or illuminas) but would settle for anything with increased dampening really. Anyone managed to find anything recently? Apologies if this has already been covered elsewhere.

Tokico Blues are currently unavailable. I went thru the same thing. KYB is made by the same company. I went thru http://www.ground-control-store.com/pro ... php/II=40/ you can adjustable spring setup. You need alittle bit of welding skills, they also include eibach springs in the kit. I went for 10" as I didn't want it lowered as I dropped a v8 in and lowered it weight alone.

Thanks, that seems to be the way the US based guys are going and they are proving very popular there. I did consider the Ground control and Re-speed gear but I will try to stick to bolt-on components as I don't have access to a welder and freight cost from the US make it uneconomical. V(o

Apparently 79-93 Mustang shocks are supposedly a bolt in replacement for the rears so i'll get some of those shortly. In Europe these appear to be manufactured to order by the likes of Koni/Bilstein so can take a few months to arrive. I should have a set of these by late January and will post some pictures.

I have also read that Mk1 Toyota MR2 rear shocks are pretty much bolt-on for the FB fronts - I have a pair of these Koni's arriving; hopefully by the weekend so will post the results (good or bad).. These may require camber plates to fit correctly, i'll have to assess this at the time.

I made a bit of progress on this last weekend. Managed to fit a set of Mustang KYB AGX adjustable shocks and PI springs to the rear. Required slight modification of the bottom shock mount to fit but nothing difficult. Ride is much improved, just the fronts to do now :)

Just a quick one on the re speed. Whet roughly where they charging for shipping to the UK? I have sent 3 emails in the last week with a few questions and no reply yet. And have much of you guys bought from re speed? I'm after the coilover kits and suspension setup but I'm not to sure exactly what to order.

Thanx cliff

Im no expert. But Re speed doesnt have a very good reputation these days unfortunately. Some people have used UK company Gaz which make a coilover conversion. Not sure of others in the UK? T3 gear from america looks nice. ££ though! :(

Sorrt for the blunt reply. Hate typing on my phone

I agree Ian,

I had a nightmare with Respeed.

But Gaz were a pleasure to deal with.
