Series 3

Post by Mark-e21 »

I'm sure these questions have been asked loads of times but.....

1. How low can I go and keep it driveable?

2. How wide can I go with alloys/tyres and not have rubbing issues?

3. What's the best route to take when it comes to exhausts and getting a bit more rasp?

Any pics and/or suggestions welcome. :)

1. You can go super duper low but are pretty horrid to drive, one of mine is as low as you may dare and it's awful lol.

The problem that arises is the rear suspension starts binding up when you get too low so you have to get adjustable low control arms made to prevent it happening. Spring choices are pretty limited, the lowest off the shelf springs are King Springs from Aus, either that or get custom springs made by a company up north for around £200. Next choice is coil overs, REspeed in the US do a kit as do a couple other US based companies. GAZ in the UK will convert you front struts to coilovers and add perches and springs to rear dampers for full all round kit but you don't get a lot of change out of £1000.

My Series 1 is dropped about 2" though and that drives pretty placidly.

2.Rears you can fit 9" 0ET, could fit a 10" if you get your calcs right. The gold S2 in the pic has those on the rear…on the front of that car is 7.5" ET+19 but they aren't flush by any stretch of the imagination so plenty of room for more aggressive ET there.

3.Get some decent headers and ditch the air pump/thermal reactor if it's not already been done. Full stainless systems sound okay, avoid the Janspeed unless you like the effect of 1000 bees coming at you. Or custom system….
