hi anyone know how to adjust the steering box???

there is over an inch of play in the steering wheel when I turn it from side to side with out the wheels moving is this normal? as I have fully poly bushed the whole car & changed the ball joints, inner + outer track rod ends, & idler bush! ive read some where that the steering box can b adjusted any advice on how to adjust it would b great full cheers mick
