Re: '84 FB
I got an S4 box with the engine
I wasn't going to bother using it unless I needed to, or if I wanted the S3 box to use with the 12a in another car. Wasn't sure of the differences, cheers for the heads up.

Re: '84 FB
Ok, that pic with FB and Escort with castle, that has to be the coolest picture I have ever seen!!!

Re: '84 FB
Haha, thanks
A couple more pics with the mk1...

I moved back to Ireland a couple of weeks ago. I brought the FB down to the 7s Day Meet in Galway last Saturday. After being laid up for 3 months, it started first turn of the key (some battery in there!) and did a 7 hour round trip including a run without missing a beat. A bit of a shame taking out the 12a, but feck it, more power!
I got a new waterpump for the 13b and we're pretty much ready to go. The stock rad is in good condition, so we're going to use that for now. We're also going to try run the stock beehive oil cooler. I think it looks awesome and functions perfectly. We're also putting the Gilmer drive on the long finger. My buddy stripped the engine bay yesterday, so we're hoping to drop the engine and box early next week and throw the 13b and S4 box in there.
I'm pretty nervous, as I pretty much bought the engine and box blind, relying on start up and running videos from the seller. Fingers crossed it's a decent engine.
And a pic on the way down to the Irish 7s Day Meet

And the awesome commemorative tshirt.

Re: '84 FB
So, been a pretty eventful week...
12A out

13B in

The S4 box didn't fit, despite all the internetz information :-p
All plumbed in and running like a dream!

An absolutely huge difference between this set up and the stock 12A set up. Couldn't be happier at the minute.

45 DCOE presumably.
What was wrong with the S4 box? I've got one in an RX2 without too much hassle.

Back in the UK for the summer, maybe longer......
Re: '84 FB
Yep, a 45.
The S4 box lined up fine with the original mounts, but the section where the gearstick actually goes (whats the term for that?) is a bout 2-3 inches too long. Obviously it would fit with a bit of cutting of the shell and the centre console, but I didn't want to do either.

Re: '84 FB
It's only 10mm longer than a S3 box.
Slot the mounts, it will slip in fine, and/or fit the S3 extension. You need to account for the extra length in the engine.

It was alot more than 10mm longer than the S3 box when we had them side by side. If the S3 box gives up the ghost, I might look into switching the extensions over.
