Are the battery cells all full of acid i.e. topped up?

If a battery cell is dry or high resistance that might push the alternator voltage up?

Yip, tried a different battery and had mine tested. Both gave me the same results. I never had a working volt meter in the car until recently when Ian helped me out with a new gauge cluster.

The wiring in the car was a total disaster when I got it so it is very possible that the regulator is hooked up wrong.

It looks like a Turbo 2 alternator. Note the post sticking out the side.

Thanks, that helps a lot! Hopefully it is just wired wrong and not the regulator faulty....

A random question while I am working on the alternator....

The heater in my rex has been bypassed and the water pipe that normally runs from the Rad to the heater and from the heater to the engine have just been run straight from the Rad to the engine. It looks rather untidy so my question is, is it needed as part of the cooling system? Can I just cap both ends off or should I have the heater core rebuilt and re-connect it all?

Thanks again for the assistance

I have lots of questions this week as I get back into working on the rex.... Things were a bit busy for a while.

Does anyone have a few photos of the under tray that goes between the front bumper and cross member? My car never had one when I bought it and would like to create a new one inline with how it was originally designed to help force a bit more air through the rad in traffic.
